ARCHIE F. LANEY, OF PORTERVILLE, CALIFORNIA.
CLUTCH-PEDAL LOCK FOR AUTOVEHIGLES.
Application filed September 6, 1921. Serial No. 498,899.
a cheap, simple and efiicient device for that.
purpose.
Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter and while I have described and shown the preferred form of my invention it will be understood that I do not limit my.- self to such preferred "form but that various changes and adaptations may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention.
In the drawings accompanying and formiug a part hereof:
Fig. l is a side elevation of my device in its position of use, with a fragment of the steering column and brake pedal of an automobile.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged top plan of my de vice in its operative position, but detached from its place of use.
Fig. 8 is a side elevation of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged top plan of my device in its open position ready for positioning.
In the drawings my invention comprises two members 5 and 6 which are hinged together at their lower ends as at 7, one of the members 5 being provided with. an upwardly extending lug 8 at one side of the pivot 7, and the other member 6 being provided with a flattened portion at 9 adapted to contact with lug 8 to limit the opening or pivoting movement of said members relative to each other, as best shown in Fig. 4.
Members 5 and 6 are twisted intermediate their ends in a quarter turn as at 10, to lie parallel with each other for a short distance and are then curved outwardly away from each other at 11 and 12 and then inwardly towards each other and have their ends terminate adjacent to each other, but slightly spaced apart. Provided in member 5 in the right angled portion 10 is a rectangular aperture 14: and provided in member 6 in register with said opening is an ear or lug 15 adapted to extend through said aperture 14L when the device is in its closed or operative position and said lug is provided'with an opening 16 therein through which opening is passed the hasp ofa padlock of any convenient form (not shown), thereby locking said members against separation. At their lower-ends, just above the pivot 7, members 5 and 6 have provided in their adjacent edges openings 17 and 18, which when the device is in its closed position provide an opening through which the clutch pedal 19 of the auto vehicle projects.
In the operation of my device:
When it is desired to lock the clutch pedal against movement my device will be first opened as in Fig. l. It will then be positioned with the stem of the clutch pedal positioned within the openings 17 and 18. The members 5 and 6 will then be brought together as in Fig. 2, with the upper arcuate portions extending around the steering column 21. The hasp of a padlock will then be passed through the opening 16 in lug l5 and locked, whereby the clutch pedal 19 is locked against movement and in its neutral position. To unlock the pedal the above procedure is reversed.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
1. A lock for the clutch pedal of auto vehicles comprising two members hinged together at their ends and being capable of a limited opening movement, said members being provided near their connected ends with cut away portions adapted to form, when in their closed position, an opening for the passage therethrough oi the clutch pedal, said hinged members being or having their upper ends twisted to extend at a right angle to the lower portion and having their ends terminating inarcuate portions adapted to surround the steering column of the vehicle, and means to lock said hinged niem bers against opening movement.
2. A look for the clutch pedal of motor vehicles comprising two members pivotally connected together at one end, said members being formed intermediate theirends with movement of said members; and means'to a quarter twist whereby the end opposite lock said members in their closed position. the pivoted end extends at a right angle In Witness that I claim the foregoing I 10 I thereto said free ends being bent to form have hereunto subscribed my name thislGth '5 ,arcuate portions adapted to surround the day of August 1921.
steering column of the vehiclewhen posiv tioned for use; means to limit the pivotal ARCHIE F. LANEY.
