OIL WELL DRILL BIT.
APPLICATION HLEDSERT-30, 1919.
Patent@ Bec.
Application filed September To @ZZ 'it avi-ay concern:
lele it lmown that l, MARTIN E. THOMAS, n citizen or the United States, residing et Aubrey, in the county of Denton und btute ot Texas, have invented certain new and useful .improvements in Uil-Well DrillA Bits, of which the following,r is e specification.
This invention relates to drill bit devices, more particularly to devices of this character employed in drilling oil wells und the like, und has for one of its objects to improve the construction end increase the etliciency und utility ci devices of this character. Another object oit the invention is to provide device of this character in which' force of e stream or Water under @oressure is utilized to clear the cutting members from the drill chips und thus prevent clogi these other objects in view, the i ,.sists in certain novel features s. en, as hereafter shown and describen and then. specically pointed out in the cluiiu, end in the drawings illustrative of the preferred tion.

the end opposite to the threads 11 the I steelt is Yformed with lateral oil'sets 13-14 the lower feces ot the offsets being reversely oblique or :it reverse angles to the longitudinci exis of thestoclr.
stool: l0 is longitudinally bored as sl'lown est l5 in figure e, the bore terminating between the oblique feces of, the oil-tests. The

bore 15 is designed to provide 2, conduit for the passage of water under 'pressure to remove the chips resulting from the drill- 1n operations.
l ountedfor rotation upon the oblique 5o feces of the offsets arecutting disks l6--" each formed of circuler plates hei/ingreduced cutting edges end securedby bolts or other suitable devicesl-l9 to the offsets he cutting members are disposed with their confronting edges relatively close and lurge project beyond the oilsets. The cutting members extend into the path of the witter flowing through the bore 15 of the that the revolving cutters ure conte stently subjected to the force of the water.
he contiguous edges ot the members l6-l7 thus constantly out into7 the flowing stream of water and deilect a, portion over the feces of the ycutting` members outwardly thus carrying the chipsv outwardly und upwardly and efectuelly preventingl the lodgment of the chips around or upon the cutters and clogging and fouling the same.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A drill bit adapted to be coupled to e tubular rod and comprising n stock having a. central continuous longitudinal bore for the 1uninterrupted passage of water to the tubu- 75 ler rod and having onpositely extending lateral offsets, the lower feces of the o ts being,r reversely oblique, and members having, continuons cutting edges :indrevolubly' mounted on the oblique faces with their cut 80 ting 'edges extending into the path of the water from opposite sides as it' passes through the bore of the stock, and substantially at right'angles to the flow thereof, whereby particles of drilled 'material ore 85 prevented from adheringi to the cuttingrv members.
lin testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.
