Application filed January 2a, 1921, Serial No. 439,391
To all whom may 0072061 Be it known that T, WVILLIAM A. "U'rrz, a citizen of the United States of Amerlca, re-
siding at Forth Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key Fasteners, of which the following is a specification. V f
My invention relates to locking keys and particularly to-safety attachments for door keys; and the object is to provide a simple be attached'to keys on the A opening-the doors. The advantage of such safety device is that it can be nested into compact form and may be carried in the pocket or burglars or other parties from attached to a keyring and so carried as part of the device broken away to show the.
construction and arrangement of the locking devlces carried by the safety devlce. Flg.
3 is a view showing the sides or side coverings of the safety device, just as the same are struck from a piece of sheet metal. Fig. 1 is a plan view of the safety device. Fig. 5 key for the safety device. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a safety device which is a sli 'ht variation from the device previously shown. Fig. 7 is an enlarged view, Show ing a key for the form of safety device shown in Fig. 6 and showing a device which may be used as a corkscrew.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views. 1
The improved safety device has a longitudinal body member 1 and side members or covers 2 which cover parts of the sides of the longitudinal member 1 and form a housing for the locking devices. A cavity 3 is formed longitudinally in the member 1 and latch 1 is mounted in said'slot and a spring 5 is mounted in the slot and bears against in member 1.

inner end reduced, leaving a shoulder 13' on door. The safety is an enlarged side elevation of the of the device and a portion the end wall of the slot and against the latch 4. A key 6 isprovided for holdingand attach ingthe safety: device to. a door key 7 A vertical opening 8 isfmade in the member 1 and this opening intercepts the opening2 V g The latch tisbeveledonthe end and the key6 is beveled at8 and has a- I shoulder. 9 into which the latch 4 will be projected by the spring 5.

tion shown 1 or the position in Fig.
The body 1 has the the upper edge so that akey '7 may lie thereon with nothing to interfere with the rib 14 of the key, most keys having such rib. The end 15 is formed into a bitfor a screw driver.
and projects through the slot 10, f
The end of the safetylock has nothing, to do with the door lock and pro:
jects merely through the escutcheonof thelock 1 will prevent the turning of the door key. The members 2 are formed withlugs 16to be brazed to the member 1. A guard 17 'is formed on the side member 2 so that a personcannotproject an instrument past the key and safety de vice to manipulate. the lug 11. The safety for use with keys,
engage the device will be adaptable of different lengths and does not door lock. The safety device has a hole; 20 so thatit' can be carried on a key ring. While being carried on a key ring," the key Swill be carried as shown in Fig. 1, the handlebeing in line with the body 1.
The form of the safety device shown in Fig. 6 has an extension 19. I This extension provides for a key 6 with a longer shank I which is formed into a corkscrew and the extension 19 forms a lifter for lifting the key 6 when it is being used as a corkscrew. The member 19 also makes a very efiicient bottle opener for opening capped'bottles.
A measuring scale will be madeon oneside rough for striking matches.
. What I claim, is,'. v l
1. A key fastener comprising, a body of one side made member to be projected into a door adjasaid body member to jacent to the door key, a spring-actuated latching member in said body, and a key to be projected through the eye of the door key into said said latching member.
2. A. key fastener for a door lock and key comprising a body member to be projected into the door with the door key a yielding latching member mounted in said body member, and a key projected through the eye of thedoor key and into be engaged by said provided with latching member.
3. A. key fastener for a door provided with lock and key comprising a body memver having a longitudinal slot and a vertical slot intercepting the longitudinal slot, a yielding latching member mounted in said longitudinal slot, and a key projected through the door key eye into said vertical slot past said latching member and engaged by said latching member.
4:. A key "fastener for a door provided body member to be engaged by with a lock and key comprising a body member having a longitudinal slot and transverse slots, a yielding latching mem ber mounted in said longitudinal slot and provided with an actuating lug integral therewith and projecting out or" the said body and a key projected through said door key and into one of said transverse slots and engaged by said latching member.
5. A key fastener for a door provided with lock and key comprising a body mem ber having a longitudinal slot and transverse slots and forming a screw driver and a key lift, a yielding latching member mounted in said longitudinal slot, and a key to be projected through said door key and into one of saic. t ansverse slots to be engaged l latching member and constituting a corkscrew.
In testimony whereof, I set my hand, this 18th day of January, 1921.
