Application filed April 28,1922. Serial No. 557,234.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that FRANK E. EICHELBERGER, citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricant-Stick Holders,`
for the reception of a stick of lubricant and bent to form attaching flanges and spaced webs.
Vith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
ln the drawing z- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a conventional form of tractor showing the device applied thereto. v
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the stick holder.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and showing a portion of the tractor and drive pinion.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a portion of a tractor of conventional type and 2 the drive pinion thereof, which drives the wheel 3 through a drive gear 4. It has been found extremely difficult to maintain the pinion 2 and the drive gear 4;
lubricated, therefore to overcome this dif- U 'ficulty the lubricant stick holder 5 is provided for the reception y of the lubricant stick 6.
The holder 5 is formed from a'single sheet of material, bent to form the substantiallyl cylindrically `shaped stick receiving portion 7, in which the stick of lubricant 6 is re` ceived, and at 8 togform rearwardly extending spaced fia-nges 9 for offsetting the cylindrical portion 7, and at the same time allowing the diameter of the portion 7 to be variedv for preventing binding of standard sized lubricant sticks v6. The flanges 9 terminate in outwardly extending flanges 10 which engage the side of the tractor 1 and are secured thereto by means of screws l1, in such a manner that the holder is support ed in a vert-ical position whereby the lubricant stick 6 will easily feed downwardly into engagement with the drive pinion 2; It will be seen that as the drive pinion 2 revolves, the stick 6 will lubricate thesameand that the gear 4L will also be lubricated.
From the above it will be seen that a lun bricant stick holder is provided which is formed from a single sheet of material, thereby allowing the same toy be cheaply made and sold. 1 y
The invention havingl been set forth what .is claimed as new and useful ist- A lubricant holder formed from a single piece of sheet metal bent upon `itself `to form a cylindrical portion for the reception of a lubricant stick, outwardly extending flanges in spaced relation to each other and angularly disposed flanges carried by the outer ends of the outwardly extending f flanges, said spaced flanges formingr means whereby when forced apart or together saidy cylindrical portion may be enlarged or contracted for receiving and holding different sizes of lubricant sticks.
In testimony `whereof 'I' hereunto affix my signature.
FRANK E. EICHELBERGER.
