CHARLES BERBERICH, 0F WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
CIGAR-TIP CUTTER.
Application filed January 14, 1918, Serial No. 211,788. Renewed December 12, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BERBnRIoI-I, a citizen of the United States, resident of l/Vaterbury, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Tip Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pocket cigar-tip cutters, and has as its special object the provision of means where- Fig. 2 is a partial vertical sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a similar View of the same parts shown in an extended position, and
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the cutting device attached to the lower part of the casing.
In the drawing, the numeral 10 represents the casing or body of the cutter, which may for the purpose set forth be of any type whatever.
The casing has a band 11 secured at its base by means of screw-threads, the band also engaging a cylindrical sleeve 12, the same extending at a considerable distance below the lower end of the casing and in register therewith, the sleeve 12 being partially enveloped in a telescope tubular jacket 14., the element having an inturned flanged bottom 15, the interior edges 16 of which are turned upwardly into an annular opening 17 at the base of the sleeve. The flanges 15 and 16 provide an annular channel in which the outturned flange of the sleeve is adapted to be received when in its lowered position.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Serial No. 344,469.
Intervening between the sleeve 12 and tubular element 14 is a band 20, secured to the jacket 1 1, by rivets 21 and containing a side opening 22, registering with a similar opening 23, formed through the jacket walls 14k and also registerable with an opening 24, formed through the sleeve walls 12, so that when the jacket is in a raised position, the end of a cigar or like article may be entered and upon the telescopic jacket 1%. being moved upwardly toward the band 11, causes the same to be severed, the cut piece dropping into jacket 14 and outwardly through the opening in its base.
The construction and manner of operation of the device is believed to be evident from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device as described, in combination, a cylindrical sleeve, a band mounted at one end of said sleeve, a cylindrical jacket, a second band secured to the inner face of said jacket intermediate the ends thereof, and having a cutting edge, said cylindrical sleeve telescoping within said second band and formed at its lower end with an out standing annular flange engaging the in terior wall of said jacket, an inturned flanged bottom formed with said jacket for constituting with the inner wall of the jacket a channel in which the flange of said sleeve is adapted to be received, said jacket, second band and sleeve being provided with registering openings adapted to receive a cigar tip, the edge of the opening in said sleeve being sharpened so as to provide a cutting edge adapted to cooperate with the cutting edge of said second band for cutting the tip off a cigar introduced into said openings upon the movement of said acket toward the first named band, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have mixed my signature.
CHAR-LES BERBERICH.
