Description

H. WYLIE.
COLLAPSIBLE. FORT. APPLICATION FILED AUG-5, i921.
Patented Dec. 5,1922.
Patented Dec. 5, 1922.
UNITED STATES HARRY WYLIE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.-
COLLABSIBLE FORT.
Application filed August 5, 1921. Serial No. 490,185.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, HARRY VYLIE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Forts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is in the nature of a toy fort, the roof of which is loosely mounted upon the walls, and there being a spring actuated trap post slidingly and vertically mounted within the walls, and adapted to be spring set and held by a trigger, which trig ger in turn may be released by means of a missile thrown or otherwise projected through one of the port holes in the "fort, thereby causing the trap post to spring up wardly and disrupt and throw off the roof of the fort in simulation of a real "fort blown asunder by an explosive bomb.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the toy fort as the roof is being thrown off by the springing of the trap post.
Figure 2 is a vertical section, showing the mounting of the spring set trap post and trigger mechanism.
The invention consists of a toy structure 1 made in imitation of a real fort, and embodying the side walls 2 with ports 3 cut therein, and a roof a adapted to loosely rest upon the walls 2. Within the walls 2 is vertically and loosely mounted a trap post 5, the lower end being slidingly passed down withp in a housing 6. A compression spring 7 is mounted within the housing 6 below the post 5, and serves to normally force this trap post 5 upwardly, and, on the sudden release of the spring, to eject it from its housing. A
plate 8 is secured to the top of the spring, upon which plate the post 5 rests. Four divergent vanes or paddles 9 are mounted at the top of the post 5. A trigger pin 10 is inserted in the post 5 below the paddles, and
is adapted to engage the under side of a lug 11' at the topof the housing 6, on the post 5 being pressed down and then turned sidewise.
Thus the trap post is set. The roof 4 is then placed loosely in position on walls. Upon a missile, such as a marble, being projected through one of the ports 3, and strikmg one of the'paddles 9, the post 5 is partially rotated, the trigger pin 10 is turned from under the lug 11, and the trap post 5 thereupon flies upward and knocks the roof a 01?, in simulation of a real fort struck by a bomb.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the apppended claim.
What I claim to be new and patentable is:
A toy collapsible fort, comprising side walls having ports; a root loosely mounted on the walls; a trap post housing within the walls; a compression spring in the said housing; a trap post slidingly mounted in the housing and bearing upon said spring therein; vanes at the free end of the post; a trigger pin in the post; and a lug on the housing to engage the pin and hold spring set' position.
