To all whom it msa y canoe 1m:
Be it known that SAMU L CLARKNAGLE,
a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing at London, England, has invented new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
. The ob'ect of the invention is to provide' an amusement device of cabinet form de- 1O signed as a means of furnishing entertainmentaby surprising .the operator or victim through] the unexpected projection I or advancement of objects of which the origin or presence is unsuspected; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination. of parts of which a preiierred embodiment'is shown in the accompanying drawings, whereinr 1 .Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view oifian apparatusembodying the invention. I EigureiQ is a transverse, sectional view of the same, on the-line 2 2 of Figure 1.,
Figure 3 is ahorizontal sectionalview on 1 the plane indicated by the line 22 of Figure 1. V
F'gure AL is a detail view of one of the bladder or balloon mountings.
Figure 5 is adetail view of an element oi" tlation ofthe bladders or balloons.
The device consistsessentially of a cabinet 10 consisting of sideand top walls of which the former ,are preferably provided with tillers of screen wire as indicated at 11,,said
cabinet being, open ended and designed to form passage way through which the oporator or victim to pass in the operation of thedevice. ,7 v 7 or Located in suitable relations in thecabinet on the top wall thereof and at the side walls are columns or series of inflatable 0bjects isuch as bladdersor balloons 12 0on5 nected with nozzles 13 which are in communication by means or" suitable tubes 14 of air trointhe supply pipe or main to the several distribut ng PIPES, successively to 111- fiate the series otlbladders orballoons and o thus cause the inward projectionthereof-toward the operator or victim in a way to give.
surprise or innocent, alarm, The bladders or balloons, made of any suitable elastioor' flexible material, arei'preferably provided with jackets or covers 19 of canvas or like materialupon which, aslindicated may" be painted, printed or otherwise represented A the faces of goblins or the like which being directed inwardly are caused to approach the operatorfrom opposite sides and thus add to the sensation of surprise ,or ,alarm.
As the operator successively movesfrom one treadle to another, thus removing pressure from the preceding treadle asvhe'steps upon the succeeding treadle iti is designed to provide for the deflation of theobjects and to thi send bleed ports 20-may be provided in the nozzles 13, or other equivalent means i may be substituted as preferred. in theconstruction illustrated the operating connection between-each trea dle and the valve controlled thereby consistso'l a crank arm 21 connected by a link 22zwith a lever 23 fulcrumed as at 24 and having, a, bearing pin :25 arranged in the ot' downward movement of the correspond ng treadle which may be hinged as indicated at -26.
Springs 27 serve to yielding-1y hold the.
treadles in their normal positions and springs 28 maybe employed to yieldingly hold the crank arms in position to maintain the valves in closed position.
It will be obvious that-the ailorded by the cabinet may be made of any desired length with inflatable objects suspassage pended-as indicated from the top thereor for i downward extension. for contact with the head of the operator or victim landthe columns of inflatable objects may be arrange d at relatively short intervals so that they are operated progressively as theolperator proceeds througlrthelength of t e.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. An amusement device having anvopen ended cabinet forming the passage way'for directing the progressive, movement of an operator or victim, successive columns of in .flatable objects in a normally deflated condition arranged adjacent to the walls of the cabinet for inward projection in obstructed relation withthe passage way as they are cabinet for inward projection in obstructed relation with the passage way as they are inflated, means for supplying air under presn I sure tosaid-inflatable objects, and controlling means for successively admitting air from the source to the inflatable objects as the operator progresses through the passage way, said lastnamed means including treadles for feet pressure by the operator.
An amusement device'ha-ving an open ended cabinet forming the passage way for directingthe progressivemovement of an operator orvlctim, successive columns of inflatable objects in a normally deflated condit-ion arranged adjacent to the walls of the cabinet for inward projection in obstructed relation with the passage way as they are inflated, means for supplying air under j pressure to said inflatable objects, and controlling means for successively admitting air from the source to the inflatable objects as the operator progresses throughthe passage way," said inflatable objects consisting of bladders or balloons interiorly accessible to pressure from the source of supply.
4. An amusement device having open ended cabinet forming the passageway for d recting the progressive movement of an operator or victim, successive columns of 1nflatable objects in a normally deflated condition arranged adjacent to the walls of the cabinet for inward projection in obstructed relation with the passage way as they are inflated, means for supplying air under pressure to said inflatable objects, a d' controlling means for successively admitting air from the source to the inflatable objects as the operator progresses, through the passage way, said inflatable objects consisting of bladders or balloons having restraining covers'carrying Objects of grotesque appearance. i I
5. An amusement device having an open I I i ended cabinet forming the passage way for directing the progressive movement of an operator or victim, successive columns of inflatable objects in a normally deflated condition arranged adjacent to the walls of the cabinet for inward projection in obstructed relationwith the passage way as they are inflated, means for supplying air under pres sure to said inflatable objects, and controlling means for successively admitting air from the source to the inflatable objects as the operator progresses through the passage way, the inflatable objects being arranged in columns respectively connected With the source of supply by distributing tubes controlled by independent valve mechanisms.
6. An amusement device having an open ended cabinet of which the walls are constructed to admit a modified or subdued light, successive series or columns of inflatable objects in a normally deflated condition disposed adjacent to the walls of the cabinet and adapted for inward projection in opposite directions upon inflation, distributing tubes respectively in communication with the inflatable objects of the several series or columns, a supply pipe for air under pressure and valved connections between the distributing tubes and the supply pipe and ineluding valve opening means having depressible treadles arranged at the floor level of the cabinet for successive depression by an operator or'victim advancing through the same.
An amusement device having an open ended cabinet of which the walls are con structed to admit a modified or subdued light, successive series or columns of inflatable objects ina normally deflated condition disposed adjacent to the walls of the cabinet and adapted for inward projection in opposite directions upon inflation, distributing tubes respectively in communication with the inflatable objects of the several series or columns, a supply pipe for air under pres sure and valved connections between the distributing tubes and the supply pipe and in cluding valve opening means having depressible treadles arranged at the floor level or" the cabinet for successive depression by an operator or victim advancing through the same, means being provided for successively deflating the objects as pressure is removed from the treadles.
In testimony whereof he aflixeshis signa ture.
