SOUNDING FIGURE TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 26, 1914.
Application filed December 19, 1913. Serial No. 807,765.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ALBIN S'rnINnR, Os-
' KAR LIEBERMZANN, and CARL 'SQHARFENBERG,
subjects of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Sonneberg, Germany, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Sounding Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The advantage of this arrangement is that the air bladders which in such toys are easily damaged can be exchanged, without its being necessary to renew the reed at the same time. A toy of this kind can also be employed without an air-bladder and the reed notwithstanding be caused to sound.
One fdrm of the invention is illustrated on the annexed drawings Figure "l being a longitudinal section with a persons head ap-.-
plied; Fig. 2 a. sect-ion on the line a b of Fig. 1. In the example illustrated, the appliance which forms part of a doll consists of an airtight bellows l which can be put under tension by a spring 2 and is provided with two end plates 3, a. Preferably on the lower plate 4;. a. reed 5 is arranged which is operated by the air that enters through a hole 6 in the plate and passes through a non return valve 7 into the bellows. In the other or upper plate 3; is a hole 8 with air valve 9. On the upper? plate 3 the'head'lO of the doll or puppet which is made of air-tight ma terial is flied or connected. In the mouth opening llf of the head an air bladder 12 is inserted or connected which outwardly-has any preferred gtorm and preferably has no reed. A'small'hol'e 13 in the head allows of ,esca e of air.
' the bellows.
air-bladder 12 which is thus inflated. When the bellows 1 is released it is expanded by its spring 2 and the valve 9 in the upper plate closes, thus shutting off the air contained in the head 10 and in the air bladder 12, but at the same timethe reed 5 is caused to sound by the air drawn in. from below through the hole 6 of the lower plate 4: into Now in order that in accord ance with the well known natural action of squeakers the air bladder 12 shall curl up or deflate when the sound of the reed 5 dies away, the small hole 13 is provided in the head 10 and through this the air contained in the bladder can escape, the size of this air outlet opening being such that the air bladder does notcurl up completely before the reed has ceased sounding.
The air bladders employed may vary in form and also be arranged in the known manner to roll up when the air escapes.
As will be understood the appliance may be of varied construction and applied to puppets, toy animals and thelike and in some cases the head may be connected with the bellows by a pipe.
In making up the doll shown on the drawings the bellows form the body portion and the arms can be secured to the upper plate 3 while the legs can be secured to the lower plate 4: and the whole be dressed according to the style required.
What we do claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A soundin figure toy provided with. an inflatable and collapsible part, a main body provided with a sound producing dea main body comprising two end plates and' 2. A sounding figure toy provided with i an inflatable and collapsible part, a hollow:
collapsible walls secured thereto, a valve;
controlled opening between one of said plates and said. inflatable and collapsible part, a sound producing device provided in the other end plate, and a spring interposed between said end plates, whereby when the main body is compressed the intlatable and collapsible part will be. inilated and when released the sound producing device will be operated.
oeaaoe through said sound producing device and operating the latter. v
In testimony whereof We have hereunto 15 l set our hands in presence of two subscriba part mounted on one of said end plates lng Witnesses.
and provided with an inflatable and collapsible device, said .part having an exterior aperture and a valve controlled opening be I tween said part and said end plate, a sound producing device mounted in the other of said end plates and a valve controlled opening for admitting air to the main body ALBTLN STEINER.
