Be it known that. I, WILLIAM I-IENRY MILES BERTHON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 27 Elbourne Road, Tooting Bec, London, S. W. 17, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Collapsible Meat Safes or Covers, Yof which 'the followingis a specification..k

`This invention relates to collapsible meat safes and has for its object the provision of an inexpensive and effective meat safe or cover which is provided with apermanent or a detachable covering and may be readily collapsed thus occupying a very small space and be readily opened or expanded for use ance. 'Io carry my present. invention into practical effect I construct the meatsafe lor cover essentially after the following Inanner The foundation member consists of a metallic or other wire base ring of any convenient shape according to the size or shape of the joint or the like it is intended to cover, but such base ring is preferably elliptical in form.

Upon opposing sides of the said ring ear clips are secureljy fixed. The clip on one side of the ring, containing and forming the joint in the wire.

A plurality of ribs of metallic wire or other suitable substance are hinged to the ear clips, their shape being such that when folded down outwardly they conform to the shape of the base ring on their respective sides. The two central ribs are so pivoted in the ear clips that when the safe is opened or expanded for use they come into contact with each other and being each furnished with a slightly` twisted loop, which loops, engage and thus retain the ribs in such position, or I may employ any other convenient fastener or catch for such purpose.

The covering may be vof any suitable netlike fabric or of a suitable ornamental fabric according to whether thesafe is for enployment in the larder or in the livingroom.

The said covering is made in two sections, one section on each side of the central ribs, the coverings being sewn or fastened on their respective sides to the central ribs and also to the base ring. The covering is also fastened at suitable intervals to the other ribs so that when the safe is opened and the two central ribs are connected as above described "which exposesthe contents for use.

' The meat safe in its' expanded condition may be employed in the manner of an ordiA 'nary rigid wire meat cover.-

In order that said invention may be better understood and carried into practical effect I ,will nowdescribe aipreferredemy bodimeiitl of saine -w'iththe 'aid of the accompanying drawings throughout which like `letters of reference denote like parts, and which drawings are to be deemed part of the specification and to be read therewith as descriptive and in no wise final.

Figure l is a longitudinal section of frame. Figure 2 is'a plan of foundation ring. Figure 3 is an enlarged view of ear clip drawn to a larger scale, and Figure 4 is an end view of same.

The foundation member consists of a metallic or other wire base ring a which is elliptical in plan or of any other shape according to requirements.

Upon opposite sides of said base ring an ear clip Z) is fixed by soldering or other suitable means. The ends of the base ring terminate within the ear clips and are there secured in the manner indicated. The ear clips are formed from a circular shaped piece of metal folded or bent together so as to form a tube ZJ at the bottom for the reception of the base ring 0; and its ends, as shown drawn to a larger scale in Figures- 3 and 4.

A plurality of metallic wire ribsc are hinged to the ear clip b, four being shown in the drawings, their shape being such that when folded down outwardly upon the base ringl c; on their respective sides they conform to the shape thereof.` The bent ends of the ribs pass outwardly through the holes al in the ear clips. j

The two central ribs c are pivoted in two merged holes d in order that when the safe is expanded for use they may be in contact and are each furnished With a twisten loop c which loops engage and retain the said ribs in such position. These loops e may in some instances be added instead of being integrally formed by twisting the Wire oitl the ribs, or l may employ any other convenient form of catch or fastener either integrally constructed With the ribs or otherwise.
