To aZZ whom t mag/"concern: 'f i Be itknown that LLoUrsM. BoYLE, a citizen of the UnitedStates;l residingfat Los Angelesfcountyof Los Angeles, and State lof' Galifornia,`have'invented anew and use- "ztul lmprovementjin'.CampnStovedl of which the following isaj speoication; y
p L.; An object of `myinvention is'to provide a camp'stove which may be used without Stovepipe, but in which an efficient'draftmaybe maintained. n*
'A 'further obj ect oi." my invention is to provide a camp stove in which the products of combustion may be discharged directly against the cooking utensils to be heated and at the same time maintain an eilicient draft.
A further object of the invention is to provide a very rigid top structure to which are rigidly attached sturdy legs, so that the whole stove is substantial and may be placed on uneven ground and sustain heavy leads without distortion.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel form of top which may be used as a skillet and which is also provided with a grid upon which meat may be broiled or cooking utensils supported.
A still further obj ect of the invention is to provide a novel form of grid which will not warp even when subjected to great heat.
Further objects and advantages will be made evident hereinafter. .v
Referring to the drawings which are for illustrative purposes only,
Fig. 1 is a perspective View ot the stove in position to be used.
Fig. 2 -is a section on a plane represented by the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3 is a section thru one end on a plane represented by the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4L is a section thru one of the cor` ners with a leg in place on a plane represented by the line i-c of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view o1c the upper end of one of the legs.
Fig. 6 is a section on a plane represented by the `line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 7 is a section thru one of the corners on a plane represented by the line 7-7 of Fig. 4L.
In the Jform of the invention shown, a top 11 is provided, this top being formed of sheet metal which is turned over to form an apron 12 extending therearound and having a rolled edge 13. Fach of the corners ot the apron is'reinforoed by a member 14.
pressedimperforate portion 15 which` is used as a skilletjfall kindsof cooking being done directly thereupon'and a grid `16 formed in the topfadjacent totheskillet 15, the grid Ihey top'11 has two portions, namely, a de- 16 being` formed by cutting out portions of the met-al to :form perforations v17, a portion ofthisv metal being rolledin the form shown Lat "18 in Fig." 2 toform cylindrical tubular bars which extendacross the top 11 between mener-formons i7. "These tubular bars are f open at either end. Secured in each of the corners of the stove is an angle iron leg 20, the upper portion of these legs having the form shown in Fig. 5, the edges of the angle irons being bent in as shown at 21, leaving a square corner portion 22. The portion 22 lits inside a strapl 23 secured by rivets 211 in the corner of the apron 12 as shown in Fig. 7, the portions 21 fitting outside this strap thus very securely locking each of the legs 2O in place. To prevent the legs from being lost, each of them is secured by a chain 25 shown in Fig. 4 to a portion of the top` 11. Detachably secured in each side of the stove is a side member 30 formed of sheet metal and having two hooks 31 passing thru holes 32 in the aprons 12. An end member 38 is similarly secured in the end adjacent to the grid 16.
rllhe method of operation of the invention is as follows:
The stove being set up as shown in Fig. 1 with the members 30 and 33 in place it Jforms a box open at the end adjacent to the skillet 15 and closed on either side and on the end adjacent to the grid 16. A wood fire being built in this space is supplied with air thru the end of the boX, the perforations 17 acting as a vent thru which the smoke can escape. "With a brisk wood fire, inside the stove, there is a great concentration of heat passing upwardly between the bars 18 of the grid 16 and at the same time the skillet 15 is very rapidly heated. Cooking utensils may be placed u on the bars 18 and very quickly heated an the skillet 15 may be used directly for cooking. The form of the cylil drical tubular bars 18 is such that they may be subjected to great heat without distortion. j
Whenever it is desired to dismantle the stove Jfor transportation, the sides 30 and the end 38 are removed which can be readily Adone by lifting the lower edges and `pulling Canvas bag may be provided into which the" stove may be slipped When not in use. y
I claim as my invention: 1..In a `stoye a grid comprising a single sheet ofmetal having perforations; eXtendin across the sheet,V a portion of the materi punched out of said perforation's kbeing bent under to forni oylindricalytuhular bars `eX- tendinfg across said sheet between said perforations. Y. t
. In a stove a grid` Comprising a single sheet of metal having perforations lextending across the sheet, ya portion of thematerial punched out ofr said perforations being bent under to form cylindrical tubular bars open at either end extending across said sheet between said perforations.
3. A top for a stove comprising: a, sheet of metal having its' edges turned at right angles to the top of said sheet to form a oontinuoits apron therearound: and bars eX- tendng /aoroslsva grid opening in said sheet.
l. A Vtop for a stove comprising a single sheet of metal having a portion mperforate to form avslrillet anda portion having openings out' therein to 'forni a grid. e.
5. A-top for a stove Comprising` a `single sheet of metal having an imper'fo'rate skillet portion, said top having a series 0i. parallel openings therein to .also form a gnid. y In testimonywhereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Chicago, Illinois, this 2nd day7 of December, 1920. i y
