APPABATUEB F03 TVTISTING MIXED FEATHER YARN.
Application filed Iliarch 26, 1921.
1/ all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, KUNrroMI OHAsHI, the subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing; at No. 21415 Sugamocho Kita-Teshimagun, Tokyo, Japan, have invented certain n and useful improvements in an Apparatus for Twisting Mixed Feather Yarn, of which the following is, a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for twisting mixed feather yarn consisting of a double edged circular cutter secured to the upper one of two shafts which are mounted on two posh; of a frame, a circular block semired to the lower shaft below the cutter, and rubber rollers provided one on either side of the cutter and the block, all being so arranged. that the barbs of feathers cut off from their shafts by the cutter are intertwisted in the two threads which run between each pair of the upper and lower rubber rollers. The object of this invention is to obtain a simple apparatus for inter twisting barbs of feathers in two threads,
'llhe accompanying drawings show an ap paratus embodying}? my invention. in which,
1 is a side view;
2, a plan; Fig.1: 3 is a. front View of the more importa nt part of the engine, while ii 4 is a perspective view thereof, and 5 shows how the barbs out off from the mothers are intertwisted in threads.
".llhe same reference numbers refer to the some or corresponding parts throughout all the figures.
To explain my invention more fully, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, on a frame there are fixed two posts on which are mounted two shafts 1 and 2 one above the other- At the middle part of the upper shaft 1 is secured a cutter 3 provided with two circular cutting edges with a narrow groove 4 between them, and on either side thereof, a rubber roller 5. On the lower shaft 2 at the middle part below the cutter 3 is secured a circular block 6, also with a rubber roller 7 on either side. Above and below the rollers there are provided four spools, two 13 above and two 13 below, and on the front of the upper and lower rollers there are respectively fixed to the posts two bars 12 and 12. On the shaft 2 outside of a post a toothed wheel 8' and a rope wheel 9 are firmly secured, the said toothed wheel. 8' engaging another toothed ii 17st sl .ft the carria Serial No. 455,778.
wheel 8 fixed to the shaft 1. On the other end of the same shaft 2 outside the other post, there is fixed a drive wheel 10 and between the drive wheel 10 and the post, a chain. wheel ll. From each front post there extends backward a rail 16 to a rear post, and on these rails 16, a carriage 18 travels. To this carriage is secured a bobbin holder with two bobbins 19 mounted thereon. The carriage 18 is asquare frame, and within the carriage below the bobbins is a rope 2% by whi h the operator may move the can riagre in one direction by pulling thereon. On a cross piece of the rear posts there is mounted a chain wheel 21, and a chain runs from the rear to the front part of the carriage l8 over this chain wheel 21, and then over the chain wheel 11 secured to the shaft 2. On the same cross piece of the rear posts and also the bobbin holder, there are mounted four pulleys 15, two on the former and two on the latter, and a rope runs from the rope wheel 9 over the pulleys of the cross piece, then over one of the pulleys of the bobbin holder, and after going; around the bobbins one after another returns back over the other pulley of the bobbin holder. The carriage is brought forward when required by means of the rope 24: tied to the frame 17- To twist feath or yarn withmy apparatus, e 18 to the front, bring threads 20 from the spools l3 and 13 over the I'O( s l4 and between rollers 5 and 7, tie them to the bobbins 19, and transmit motion to the drive wheel 10, at the same time feedinn the apparatus with feathers by insertquill part thereof into the groove 4 of the cutter. Then the shaft 2 revolving, the chain 22 will take the carriage 1S rearward and the rope 23 will cause the bobbins to revolve, while the cutter will cut the feathers and the barbs separated from the shafts will be caught between the two threads, and will be intertwisted with them, when the carriage has reached the limit of the rails, stop transmission of motion to the drive wheel, and pull the rope 2 1. This will bring the carriage forward, at the same time raising the twisted feather yarns over the bobbins and causing them to be wound thereon, because in this case the chain wheel 11 will be revolved in the opposite direction and the rope wheel 9 also will revolve to the opposits direction, so bobbin wind the feather yarn. By repeating this process, any required amount of mixed feather yarn can be obtained.
1 claim l. An apparatus for making mixed feath er yarn, consisting of a double-edged cutter, a rubber roller on either side above, a circular block, and a rubber roller on the either side below, all being so arranged that the threads between which the barbs of feathers cut off by the cutter are caught pass between the rollers and with the feathers are twisted into mixed feather yarn, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth- 2. Apparatus for making feather yarn 1,4se,eee
cate thread-twisting means to each of which.
a pair of threads is delivered, and to which the barbs cutby the respective cutters are delivered.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
