Be it known that I, JOSEPH HENRY Seen, a citizen of the nited Staates, residing at SanFrzpncisco, in ehe county of San Fran- 5 c isco and State of Caliiornia,have invented new anduseful limprovemehts in Serpentine Throwers, ol which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improve ments in amusemerlt deVices und has partieul2u reference to a catapultdevice :Eor throwing rolle oi pzlper ribh0n,which are comlonly'known es serpentines. Ehe primary objeot 0f the invention isto provide a simple, inexpensive, small und oompact device of the chameter deseriloed by means of' which paper rolls or serpentlnes may be eflectively eata'pultedor thrown with but little efiort 01 exertion 011 the part o1. the user.

A furt-her objeet of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, whioh Will prove 'amusing and entertaining 'as a means for throwing serpentine rolle, wichouc equiringthat a thr0wing movement of the arm be resorted to.

The invention possesses othei advantages and features some of which, with the foregoing will lee set fo'rth als length in the following description wher I shall outllne in full that forma of the invention whioh I have selected for illustration in ehe drawings accompanying and forming a part of the present speeifieation. In said drawings l have shown one -for1n of the construotion of my invention, lont lt is to loe understood that I d0 not limit myself to such ferne since ehe invention as expressed in the claims may be embodied in a plurality 01: forms.

In earrying out the lnvention I provide a handle 01' body portion of resilient materiul, whieh may loe either wood or metal, and I attach to seid handle adjacent' to one end thereof a pocket o1 holder 0l' such construetion that lt Will support a serpentine roll while the handle isheld in one hand and the other band is used to flex 01: bend the strip in ordenthat the seid roll ntmy be catapulted from'the pocket, the operator holdingone endof the paper against the handle when catapulting the roll.

Referring particularly to the drawing Wherein I haLve illustrated a preferred embod1ment of the invention, l designates 21 handle 01 body portion of the device, which handle o1 body portion is in the form of a thin, fla.t strip of resilient W00d or l'esilient metal, and"is for example,nine inches in length, approxirnately 0ne-half 0f an ineh xv1clean d one-quarter of an inch thick, these proportmns being varied, as desi1ed, depend 1ng upon the material used.

Mounted upon one sideof the handle or body portion l, adjacent t0 oneend thereof, is a pocket er holder 2 adapted tocontain and upport a Serpentine roll 3, as showh in Fig. l. The poeket er holder may be formed of still paper or eard-board and comprises opposed side Walls 4, whottom Wall 5 and a rear all 6. Tl1e rear Wall is glued 01' otherwise secured so as to lie flat upon alle handle er bOdy portion 1 und the heiem wall 5 is disposed appr0ximately et righ angles to said handle or body portien. The side walls instead of being of rectangular form are cut away, as ab 7, so that the outer or forward portions thereof are reduced and the side Walls are thus substantially L shaped. By this construcbion and errangement of the side Walls, the inner end portions 8 of the serpentine roll may be extended over the side of the pocket 01 holder, es shown in Fig. l, downwardly to a point where it may be held, as shown at 10, against the handle portion between the thumb and said handle. The main requirement for the holder er pocket is that lt retain and supporc the serpentine roll in uprightposition so thai; when the handle 01' body portion is fiexed, the roll will be prejeeted er catapulted and will unwind, es is the case when thrown in Lhe ordinary way with the band, it being essential to so coustruct tbe holder 01 pocket tbat tbe paper Will not be i:orn apart o1 break, due to frietional contact tbereof with the pocket 01' holder.

T0 use t-he device, a serpentine roll is plaoed as shown in Fig. l, in tbe pocket 01' holder end tbe inner end portion is extended downwardly over tbe side of ehe pocket so tl1at it may be grasped end l1eld between tbe tbumb and first finger, wbile bolding the lower end of tbe handle with tbe lel't band. Tbe upper end of tbe handle or body portion is tben grasped end pulled reafwardly so as to flex the handle and by a quick Teleaseof si1id'upper end tbe handle Will spring forwardly' end project or catapult tbe roll in such mahnen tbat the paper will unwind in serpentine form.

Tbis will permit of an easy thr0wing of A serpentines in croWds o1 crovvded places yvbere ordinarily the tbrowing by bandisrendered di1llcnlt, 01, is im p0ssible.

A device for tbrowing serpentine rolls co1nprising a resilientbandle adapted to be flexed and released 110 elfect tbe throwing of a serpentine roll and a holder earried by said handle adjacent to one end thereoi and adapted to support a serpentine roll, seid holder being entirely open on its front and npper sides and comprising spacedside Walls adzipt ed to engage upon jopposite sidesof a Serpentine roll and ano-ther Wall adapted t-o eggtend under and suppott ehe said roll.
