PAPER MILK BOTTLE AND CAP.

- Milk Bottle and Cap, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention consists of a bottle of the class known more particularly as a paper bottle for containing milk, the same having in its mouth a single depending flange which is integral with the neck portion of the bottle at the mouth thereof and flexible so as to be pressed against the inner side of said neck by the action of a cap or stopper which is adapted to press against the inner side of said flange whereby the cap is not liable to slip out of position and off from the bottle and the cap is held firmly engaged with said flange while the latter after removal of the cap remains intact for further use of the bottle, thus simplifying and reducing the expense of a bottle of the kind, provision being also made for conveniently grasping the cap at its upper end for the convenient removal of the cap all as will be more fully described.
It consists finally of novel means for connecting the base or bottom of the body with the latter.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important lnstrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invent1on is not, limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims.

Referring to the drawings,
1 designates the body of the bottle, the 7 same being preferably of conical shape and constructed of a 'piece of suitable paper formed into said shape having its side ends overlapping as at 2 and united firmly by the staple-like metallic clips 3 whose legs. are clinched in position, as most plainly shown in Figure 2. The paper usually employed is paraflined and so said side overlapping ends of the piece as shaped adhere. This with the clips firmly unite said ends making a tight joint of the side ends of the body of the bottle from top to bottom thereof.
, The mouth or upper end of the body is turned inwardl and downwardly forming the depending ffange 4, the overlapping ends of the body at said top forming the double flanges 5 which latter are also united by the clips which are passed through the same and united by the clinched clips 3, said flange being open throughout in the vertical direction forming the open mouth of the bottle. The clips that unite the double flange 5 extend in horizontal direction and so cause their legs to be in horizontal direction whereby they clinch the overlapping ends of the depending flanges 4 and of the contiguous portions of the overlapped ends of the top or mouth portion of the body of the bottle in horizontal direction and so take firm hold of the parts that they clinch in what may be termed the direction of the width of the four fold thicknesses of the overlapping ends of the flange 5 and contiguous portions of the body of the bottle, see Figure 4, and so most effectively closing the joints of said thicknesses, making them tight thereat, since one leg is at the side of the other and separated therefrom in horizontal direction and the legs occupy a larger space on said thicknesses in said direction. Each of the clips that unite the overlapping ends of the side of the body below the top of the latter extends in vertical direction and so cause lts leg to be in vertical direction, whereby they clinch said overlapping ends in vertical direction, and. so take firm hold of the parts that they clinch in the vertical direction of the body, and so most effectively close the joint of said ends especially'aS one leg I and inwardly above the other and separated therefrom, and the legs extend over a longer space in the vertical direction-of the body and makes a tighter joint whereby the vertical clinch is applied.
The inner walls of said flanges 4 and 5 form the seat for the closing cap or stopper 6, which is adapted to be fitted tightly in said flanges, said cap being of the form of .a cup composed of the side 7 and bottom 8 and constructed of suitable paper.
The bottom end of the body.is turned up forming the flange 9 producing a channel in which is received the downwardly extendingrim 10 of the base 11 of the bottle, said base being also formed of suitable paper, it being seated on the top of said flange 9and so being supported solidly thereon and connected firmly by its rim with the bottom of the bottle, it being noticed that the overlapping ends 2- of the body also occupy the relative portions of said channel.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 9 and 10, the side ends of the body of the bottle are turned laterally in 'opposite directions and engaged with each other forming the interlocking lapjoints 12 which are connected by the clinched clips 3, thus producing a fluid tight joint for said side ends. It will be seen that the depending flange 4 is yielding and resilient in its nature whereby when the cup is inserted therein the side wall 7 thereof wedges in a measure with said flange and so the latter hugs said wall in a firm and tight manner which prevents leakage of the fluid at the top of the bottle and retains the.cup in closed position until properly withdrawn.
The height ofthe side wall 7 is such that its upper portion 13 projects exposed above the top edge of the bottle where it may be grasped or engaged by a suitable opener and so removed to open the bottle in a convenient and easy manner.

A paper bottle having in its mouth por-' tion a single inturned and downturned flange which is integral with the side wall of the body of the bottle, bent from the mouth and dependingfrom the bend to its bottom en tirely free of the inner face of the said mouth portion, and a cup shape cap having its side adapted to engage frictionally with the inner side of said flange and compress it against the side of the mouth portion of the bottle.
2. A paper bottle having in its mouth portion a single inturned and downturned flange which is integral with the side wall of the body of the bottle, bent from the mouth and depending from the bend .to its bottom entirely free of the inner face of said mouth portion, and a cup shape cap having its side adapted to engage frictionally wth the inner side of said flange and compress it against the side of the mouth'portion of the portion: of said Side being extended upwardl above said bend.
