CALENDAR., f
Application led .Tuly 1, 1922. Serial No. 572,273.
To all whom t concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H.Bii1`znn,a-
citizen of the United States, and a resident the following is a full, clear, and exact description..
Nly invention calendars, and 'it consists in the 4combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and.r claimed.
An object of my invention 4is to provide' an improvement over that form of the device-I shown in my priorapplication' for patent oncalendar,l Serial No. 545,219, filed March 20,.- 1922.l In said prior application there wasv disclosed a calendar composed of three discs, 1 these discs having years, months, and days.
imprinted thereon, and beingoperated from the rear side of the'calendar. .The construction yof the present device isprimarily de-I signed to permit the discs to be actuated from the front side of the calendar. l
which has novelmeans for ascertainingthev required calendar. to .be used. j
is relatively simple in construction, and
in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention willbe particularly f pointed? outin the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming plication, in whichv f Figure A1' is a front elevation ofthe device,
Figure 2 is an enlarged section along the line 2 2 of Figure 1,4 y
Figure 3 is an' enlarged section along the' lineVS-S of Figure 1, and f f of Figure n In carrying out my invention, vI
provide a metal frame 1 which is preferably hollow,l
eii'ective, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. The frame Vhas a transverse hollow bar 2 which extends thereacross. Glass supporting members 3 are car-- ried bythe bar 2 andsupp'ort 'glass pieces v4.
The members?) extend inwardly beyond the;
part' ofthis ap-V bar 2 and terminate iiush with the inner surface of the glass 4.
A- front plate 5 preferably or cardboard or other like material is disposed behind the glass 4, and is provided with an opening 6 therein (see Figure 1). A back plate 7 of wood isl removably secured -to the frame 1. i y y The plate 7 has'pegs 8 which project into relates to improvements in openings in the frame 1, and has arms 9 which are adapted to be swung into slots 1() in the framel, whereby the plate is rigidly lockediuplace. The plate 7 carries a stub shaft `11 which extends through the bar 2 and projects therebeyond. As clearly shown in Figure 2, the shaft 11 is rigidly held in placeby discs 12 and a pin 13. The shaft l1 has three discs 14, 15, and 16 rotatably mounted thereon.
The disc 16 is rigidly secured to a sleeve 17 by 'meansfof a pin 18, the sleeve being rotatably vdisposed on the shaft 11. In like manner the discs 14 and 15 are rigidly secured to.sleeves 19 Aand 20 by pins 21 and 22.5 fThe sleeve 20 isfrotatably' mounted on A further object of my invention is toi provide a' device of the character described theV sleeve f17, lwhile the sleeve 19 is rotatably mounted on the sleeve 20. 'It will further be' noted from Figure 2 that the sleeves 17, 19 and 2O have flanges which space the `A further object of my .invention ist-o` provide a device of the type described which discs 14, 15 and 16 slightly from each other and which alsoact as the supporting bases for the pins,21, 22 and 18 respectively.
Each of the sleeves 17, 19 and 20 extend throughthebar` 2 and arestepped with respect to eachother. Thesleeves are provided with lactuating knobs whereby the discs may be rotated exteriorly of the frame.
The knobs'23, 24 and 25 are disposed over the sleeves 17, 19 and 20 respectively, and have projections 26 27 and 2 8 which extend into slots 29, 30zand'31 in the sleeves. The outer knob'26is heldin place by a washer v andscrew. From this construction it will be apparent that any one of the discs 14, 15
; and16 may beactuated. Figure 4 is a section along the line 4-4` ...The discv 14 is divided into twelve segmnts32, each of these segments having a year imprinted thereon.' In Figure 1, I have v shown the segment 32 having the year .1922I imprinted thereon, in registration with the 'opening 6. The disc 15 in like manner is divided into twelve segments 33, these .segments having lthe names of the months and the number of days in each month imprinted thereon. As will be clearly seen from the. drawings, the month of /.iprih4 30"Days is in registration with the.
' 1922 were to be used, the slide 35' would be' drawings I have Lshown the month which "is-` used with the month `of in the year 1922. It will be noted that this calendar month 34 has a 6 imprinted lthjeifeo'n and has the iirst day of the month fallfon Saturday.
It should be noted 'that all of thec'alendfars 34 have 31 days therein. It i`s`obvioii`s, fhofw# "ever, that certain of the months havea less number of days therein, as forfeirainpla lthe month 'of April, which is illustrated the drawing'. 41I dispose a slide 35", 'of lthesafpe shown in Figure 1, direetly'iulirnt of the dise 16, this card being fniovdble so as to cover any portion of the last "twogrovsof numbers in the calendar` 34. A Iiil'lei plate 36 has a cut away portion 37 lwhich receives the disc 16. The filler space'sf'the slide 35 lfrom the plate 7 so `that 'the slide abnts the surface of the disc 1:.6. `A 'second filler' plate 38 is disposed upon the filler 36 and is butv away at 39 to permit die free mevelueut. of ythe slide 35. In case the month "of At'p'r'itly moved from the position "shownkin vFigure l, into a position in which the number 3l "on the calendar 34 would be covered'. The ex'- tended portion 40 of the slide is ffor 'the'purpose of concealing "son'le'oi the Inurfnbers'on the fifth row of the al'end'ar, `as for' enample, when the month "of February is us'ed, which has only 28 or 29 days.
To ascertain which calendar 3'4 is to' be used with aV certain inonth L'and year, p'rof vide two slides 41 and 42iwlhi'h haiethe del sired information ther'eon. These :slides are mounted just behind the front platb" 54 and at the lower corners' of the J'device as 'illus'- trated in Figure The plate '5' has rectan'# g'ular openings 43 "and circular openings@ therein. The slides 41 and 42 have year numbers which are adaptedto be registered with the openings 43, and other numbers" from l to 7 which are `vadalf'p,ted to" :be regijsi tered with the `openillgs The sides 35,41 and 42 can be moved by means of "guides 45 which are clamped to the vslides andjhave tru'nnions which project 'through slots 4B in' 4 the sides of the :traine 1 (see-Figure2). Geil tain of the guides' are provided with knbbsy by means of which the' slides are moved. The'slide 42 is spaced from the slidev '35 a filler 47'.
From the foregoing-descendue er the va rious parts of the device, vtlfie operation there; of may be readily understo'd; It will' noted from rFigures 1 and 4 that the discs 14, 15 1`vand 16 are positively lheld-against rotation by springpressed pins 48, 49 and 50, the .points of the pins being received in openings `in ythe dises.
Assume that the mont-h of April for the year 1922 is desired. The pin 48 is manually `removedl from the disc 14, thus permitting the latter to be rotated until the year 1922 vis brought into registra-tion with the opening' 6. `It will be noted lthat the dises 15 fand 16 are held 'against Vrotation by the pins 49 land 50, when the disc `14 is rotated. The pin 48 is released `when the number 1922 is brought into registiation with the opening' `6, and drops into one of the open` ings 51, thus preventinzgr further rotation otf the' discs 14uut'il1it's again manually moi/ed outwardly. In like manner the l'pins '49 and' 50 "are vrfuciuually removed neurone 0l? the 85 rows of openings 51 and 52 Tefspeetively, thns permitting 't'hediscs 115 and 116 to be lrotated By rotating the die@ 15, the mouth April is brou'ght'into "registration Lwith the opening 6. The slides 41 la`11d`42 are moved by'nieans ofthe guide handles 45 until the numbers 1922 of both slides 'are "in registrau tion 'with the openings 43.` Thenumber in theJ circular 'openingl 44 which is disposed beneath the month April is they number of the calendar 34 to' be used for this month'. The number in the opening' 44 'under the word April is -6. The dijsc 16 is ynow rotated until the calendar 34, having 6 thereon, is brought into registration with! 100 the *Opening e. Since there areeuly `eo days in the month of April, 'the slide'35 is 'moved until it/eovers the number '31 on the exposed calendar 34. The calendar is now ready for' use for the current month. TheJ numbers 'the openings designate the required A`cale'fidare 34m be used furthe 'vari ou`s`f1`n`onths i'n asin'gle year;r It ifs obvious that vif the current mouth is in the last half' of the yei", the slide 41 can'beV 'moved tothe next year. By merely replenishing die 'slides ligand-42, the devi/ee eau be used for aguin;k definite period. y y
The portionof the plate 5 which is disposed above the bar 2 can have a picture 53A 115 oran advertisement disposed thereon. In-l formati-on, such asp'geueral holidays, or the like, 4may be printed on the plate belew tlle--peuihgs 43 and 44. The device is ellic'ient for the purpose intended and 'Inalie's ai 1'20 pleasing appearance to 'the eye. The-'edges of tlfeb frame 1 are recessed sb as to receive' the guides 4 5, With this construction, the' guides 'are hid fromview, when the" 'calendar is viewed 'from' 'the front.
