Application filed" October 25, 1821. Serial lto. 510,217.
Be it known that 'L'L Mo'rrn SMITH, a
I "citizen of the United States and a resident new and useful Support and Shock-Absorber plates.
for Typewriters, of which the following is a ,3 of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New'York, have invented a certain specification. A v
This invention has for ts ob ect' a support and shock absorber device for typewrlter machines, which is particularly simple and, economical in construction, and 111 hly em- 'cient and durable'in. use, and on w ich the typewriter frame can be readily mounted and secured;
'- vThe invention consists in the novel features, and in the combinations and construe:
".tions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanyingdrawings in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all-the views.-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of one of th supports,.the contiguous partsof the typewriter frame being also shown.
Figure 2 is a sectional view-looking downwardly, taken on line 22, Flg. 1. v
These devices are adapted for typewriting machines manufactured by the well known L. C. Smith & Bros. Typewriter 'Co., or forsimilar machines, having vertical screws in the lower edges of each of the side members cally shoulders'depending from the lower edge of the typewriter frame.
My typewriter support and shock absorber comprises a pair of resilient strips 5 having feet 6 at their front and rear ends whereby the strip 5 is oifset'fromthe desk or table,
front and rear brackets 7, 8 mounted on each strip and having portions 9 overhanging the strip and formed with a slot 10 opemng through the edge of the overhanging portion for receiving one of the feet of the typewriter.
Preferably, the overhanging portions 9 extend in the direction of the strip and the slots 10 0 en through the front end edges of the over anging portions so that the typedesignates the side menu Means'is providedfor locking the frame from movement after it has been placed in juxtaposition on the strips and as here shown, one of-the brackets 77, 8 as the front bracket 7 of each strip is formed with a slot ll'opening into the slot 10 through the .bottomor inner end thereof, the slot 11 bemg of less wldth than the slot 10 but being of suffic ent width to receivethe fastening screws ,4, and a latch 13 is m'ounted on each front bracket and-is movable to close the entrance of the slot 11 and thus hold the typewriter frame from movement owing to the fact that the screw 4 is'held from move- 'm'ent'out of the slot by the latch.
- In the illustrated embodiment of my invention, the'latch 13 is pivoted at 14 on a vertical pivot to the front bracket of each strip 5 and has an arc-shaped slot 15 for receiving the screw 4;, and an arm 16 movable across the entrance of the latter slot, the latch 13 being preferably mounted on the upper side of the overhanging portion 9 of the frontabracket 7 of each strip.
The rear bracket 8 of each strip is also shown as formed with a slot similar to the slot 11 but such slot is present in the rear bracket owing to the fact that both front and rear brackets are made withthe same In operation the typewriter is placed so that it stands on the back member of the frame, thescrews 4 are turned in the screw holes directly behind the front rubber feet of the frame are adjusted so that the rubber 'feet project beyond the heads of the screws.
The shock absorbin device is then placed in positionwith the feet of the typewriter in'th'e slots '10 and the screws 4 in the slots 11. The screws 4 are then adjusted to fit in the slot 11" loosely. The latch is then moved on its pivot to close the slots 11.
The machine with shock absorber attached thereto is then'set on the desk and the shock absorbers secured to the desk by screws pasing through the feet of the shock absorber.
What I claim is:
1. A support and shock absorber device for typewriters having feet and depending pins depending from the loweredgesof the t pewrlterframe near'one of the feet, said divices comprising a bracket formed with an overhanging horizontal portion said" pin on the frame adjacent one of the feet on overhangin portion being formed with openings' or receiving one of the feet ofthe typewriter and the adjacent pin and means coacting with the pin for holding thegframe from dis-H placement from the bracket, substantially as and for the purpose described;
2. A support and shock absorber-device for typewriters havin feet and depending pins depending from t e lower edges of the typewriter frame near one of the feet, 'said devices comprisinga bracket formed with an overhan ing-horlzontal portion, said portion bein ormed with openings for receivin one o the feet of the t pewriter and the a a'cent pin, and a la'tc pivoted to the portion of the -vertical feet, mentsubstantia lyas -an or thepurpose specified. p
and movab e horizontall into'en with said pin 3. Atypewriter support comprisin and rear crotch plates for receiving t e feet of the typewriter frame, one of sald crotch plates having a slot openin' intothe'inner end of the crotch for receiving a depending the frame, and a latch carried by; such crotch plate and movable across the entrance of the slot to lock the plate in the slot, sdbstantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. A support and shock absorber device for typewriters having feet, and'pins'depending from :the lower edges of the-typewriter frame said device comprising aresilient' strip having supporting feet at its ends, a bracketmounted on the intermediand formed with a 'pore strip and extending in the direction 0 the strip, the overhanging ate part of thestrip tion overhangin t portion being formed witn a lengthwise, slot opening through the end edge thereof for receiving one of the feet of the typewriter frame, and with a slot of less width than the foriner slot and-opening through the inner end wall of the former slot for receiving a depending pin on the lower edge of the type- Writer frame, and means for closin the entrance of the'latter slot,substantial y as and for the purpose specified.

A "typewriter, support and shock abing suppor'tingfeet at their ends, front and rear crotch plates carriedby each strip for I receiving the feet of the tyepw'riter'frame, one of said crotch plates having a slot opening into the inner'end of the crotch for reforth.
"-sorber comprising apair of base strips havsolving a depending headed pin on the' frame, and a latch carried by such crotch plate and'mo'vable across the entrance of the slot to lock the headed pinin the slot, substantially 'as'and' for the purpose specified. "7. A sup art and shock absorber device for typewriters having feet and pins dewriter framenear one of the feet, said devices comprising a'resile'nt strlp having supporting feet at its ends, abracket mounted on the strip andfornied withaportion over hangingthe strip, said portion' bein formed with "openings for receiving one-o the feet of the typewriter and the adjacent pin, sub.-
stantially as and for the'purpose described.
8. A- support and shock, absorber device for typewriters havin feet and pins depending j mm the lower 0 ges of the typewriter frame near one of the feet, said devices comrising a resilientstrip having supporting eet at its ends, a bracket mounted onthe strip and formed with a portion ove'rhang- 7 .ing the strip, said portion being formed with i one of the feet of the typewriter andt e adjacent 'pin, and means 'coacting with the pins for holding: the frame from detachment from the strip, sulstantially asflandfor the purpose spec1-' 'fie.'-
openings for recei-vin 9. A support and shock device for typewriters having ing into the lower e ges of the typewriter frame, said device comprising a resilient strip having supporting feet at its ends," a
feet and-pins. thread-' iis bracket mounted onthe'strip and formed with a portion overhanging the. strip, said portion being formed with an openingfor one of the feet of the typewriter and with a slot leading from said opening for receiv-' I ing the ad'acent pin of the typewriter frame,
and av late carried by the bracket and movable across the entrance of said slot, 'substan-,
tially as and for the purposeset forth.
In testimony whereof, I havehereunto v signed in name, at Syracuse, in the count of Onon a a, and State of New York, this 13th day 0 October, 1921. v LA MOTTE SMITH.
