To cZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, THOMAS J. BURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fender Braces, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawlngs.
It has been found that the front and back fenders of automobiles especially those of the Ford type become misplaced, rattle, and sag down on the tires, which results in wear on the structure, therefore it is the purpose of the pri ent invention to provide 'a device of thischaracter which will hold the fenders clamped imposition, prevent all rattling, and make thefenders strong and more durable.
Another purpose is to provide a brace which will prevent the fenders from sagging down and causing wear on' the tires, as well as preventing distortion of the fenders.
Still anotheit-purpose is to provide a fend er brace comp ri sing clamps connected to and carried by the fenders, in combination with a transverse rod adjustably connecting the clamps, to insure rigidity. strength and durability. This brace may be adjusted on the fenders from a position adjacent the radiator forwardly, andfis capable of being applied either to the front or back fenders, or both, preferably the latter. It is to be noted that thebrace is not limited to uscin connection with Ford automobiles for it is ob vious that it ma be used on other makes.
It is to be on crstood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative and that while still keeping within thc'scope of the invention, any desired modifications of detail and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to circumstances.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawing a Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the front portion of an automobile, showing the clamps as applied to the fenders, together with the reinforcing connecting rod, which adj ustably connects the clamps; and

these opposed parts 7 are drawn toward and adjacent each other, so as to draw the hooked ends 8 of the lateral parts 9 of the clamp tightly and securely in engagement with the opposite edges of the fender. In other words the hooks 8 at the ends of the lateral parts 9 grip the opposite edges of the fender, and hold the same rigid, and materially prevent rattling and sagging of the fender.
The opposed parts 7 between the bends 5 and 6 are provided with registering openings or apertures 10, which receive the threaded ends 11 of a transverse brace rod 12. This transverse rod 12 may be disposed adjacent the front of the radiator, or forwardly thereof, it depending entirely. upon the conditions and the ideas of the owner of the vehicle. Preferably the rod 12 is 'disposed adjacent the radiator. When the rod 12 is applied the nuts 13 are threaded on the ends of the rod, so thatsuch nuts may contact with the outer faces of the inner portions 7 of the clamps, thereby constituting abutments. In fact when the opposed parts 7 are drawn'toward each other, an upstanding lug is formed on the clamp After the nuts 13 are applied, and adjusted to the proper locations, additional nuts 14 are threaded upon the extremities of the threaded ends of the rods, and are adjusted toward and in contact with the outer faces of the remote parts 7 of both clamps. are tightened in place, they not only insure arigid brace or connection between the opposits fenders, but also act to draw the opposed parts 7 in contact with each other, and also insure a. rigid grip of the hooks 8 with the opposite edges of both fenders.
A construction of brace of this character will not only insure rigidity between the fenders, but will also prevent rattling, and hold them in place and prevent them from sagging or dragging upon the tires of a wheel, which will result materiall in rendering the fenders more durable. bviou'sly When the nuts 1% the fender brace may be applied to the rear fenders as well as to the front fenders.
