RADIATR R TANK CAP.
Application llel July 25,
To'cZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, CHARLES HENRY WicznLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ballinger, in the county or Runnels and State ot Texas, have invented new and useful lmprovenients in Radiator or Tank Cops, of which the following is o specificotion. i
This invention relates to closues for tenhs, automobile radiators, ond the like and hos for itsobject the provision of o novel closure in which the use of on ordinary screw cop is avoided, my closure including e neck member `edepted to be secured upon a radiator or tenir ond further including s cmp hnving n hoyonet slot connection with the neck, the cop contnining o spring-pressed sealing element whereby to prevent lechage;
in importent object is the provision of e device of this cherocter which me, be used in piece et the ordii'iory` noch on cop or which may he huilt or secured onto e without removing the'ordinory neck thereon.
An odditionnl object is the provision ot e device ci this chorocter which will be sino-- ple ond inexpensive in rnnnnitoctnre, highly ethoient in use, cosy tooperete, durable in service, end o generel improvement 'in the nrt.
lf ith the ebove ond othei objects ond odrontnges in view, the invention consists in the details o? construction to be hereinafter more telly described end cloinied and illustrated in the eccompnnyinc drawings in which-- Figure 1 is side elevotion oit my closure device, l
.Figure 2 is e longitndinol sections-1, view therethrough, Y.
Figure 3 horinontol sectie-nel view.,
Figures l 4ond 5 nre vde'toil views o? o modified torno, end llignre t is o detoil side elevction of the nech niernber elono Referring incre perticnlorly tothe drowings, provide e fcylindricol noch 1@ gereterohly tesmed et one end with'on ont-turned fehy it he secured troon eny rece, e such es gasoline teich, rediotor or the lilre, ond this noch provided internelly with e 12 is termed with o lolnrelity hoyonet slots opening ont its ninos The nnnnornl le designctes the con which is oleo cyhnffricel ond which is d signed to 192i. serial noffiemee.
The lower edge of this cop is reinforced :by n bend 15 held in place by s plurality of screws 16 which extend throu h the bond and through the cop end whic project inwordly, as shown, so that they may be engaged' within the bayonet slots 13.
Mounted within oep le is o cup-sheped member 17 which hos its lower end closed and adopted to seat upon o gasket 18 disposed upon the Hangs 12 At its upper portion thecup 17 is formed with en enn larged portion dening o shoulder 19 which is engageoble with the projecting ends of the screws 16 for preventing the cup from @coming disassocioted from the cop. spring which is locoted within the oep nnd which hos one end shutting against the closed end thereof and its other end cloutting against the closed end of the cup.
ln the use of my device the cup 17 is disposed within the. cop v141- with the spring 20 in position, otter which the screws 16 ore placed in position. Assuming that thetnnk is open, in order to close it the operetor slips the cop over the neel: with the screws 16 entering the entrance ends of the looyonet.
o partiel turn to bring the screws into the closed ends of the slots whereupon the ports 'will he retained 'in' this position'with the screwed thereinto while in other instances' the tonh noch is enternelly thrceded, in which event the ring 21 nonsthe inernelly threeded, rshown-.in @ignoro t The nse et this torni et the device is the sente es the nbove'descrihed nen' From the foregoing description ond o The numeral designates o coil,
roost be externally slots, after which the operotor gives the con v Se i' study of the drawings it will be ennerent thet l' hnve thus provided osinirly constructed conso-11gnently` inexpensive closnre lor gasoline thinks, fentoinohile rodi# ntors, ond in toot recentecles or. eny hind ordinerily providedA with o screw con, my
lll@
device being so constructed and arranged that the cap may be removed and replaced in a remarkably short time and with unusual little effort.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment 0f my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the f'orm, lconstruction and arrangement of parts as will notdepart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: l
1, A receptacle closure comprising a cylindrical neck formed with bayonet slots and provided with an internally extending fiange, in combination with a cap disposable exteriorly upon the neck and provided with inwardly extending projections engageable Within said slots, and a spring-pressed sealing member Within the c ap engageable with said flange, said sealing member consisting of a cup having a closed lower end and having its `upper portion enlarged to define a shoulder engageable with said pro`ections for preventing disassociation of t e cup :from the cap.
2. A closure device comprising a neck having an inwardly extending flange and provided with a 'plurality of bayonet slots, in combination with a cap disposable externally upon the neck and provided with a plurality of inwardly extending projections engageable `within said slots,` a gasket on said flange, a cup member disposed Within the cap and adapted to seat upon said gasket and provided at its upper ortion with an enlargement defining a shou der engageable with said projections, anda spring located Within the ca and cup for holding said cup against said gasket. f
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.'
