Be it known that T, FAGeIo Manrino, a subject of the lining of Italy, residing at Perris, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have invented new and useful Means for Supplying Boilers with Antiscale Compound, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for introclucing petroleum or other scale preventing liquid into a steam boiler.
The object of this invention is to pr0- vide simple and easily constructed and appropriate means for accomplishing this result.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention.
1 represents a steam boiler having the usual appurtenances such as feed pipe a, steam gage I), water glass 2, fire box .3 for an oil burner or for the introduction of fuel, a smoke-stack 4 and a blow-off valve 5.
The nipple pipe 18 is introduced to the boiler above the water line of the water valve 8, and is connected at 13 to the boiler below the water line. A connecting elbow 6 is screwed onto and connected to the valve 8 and an upright nipple 6 is screwed into the elbow and is threaded at the top and T 14 is screwed onto the same. A nipple 15 is screwed into the upper end of the T 14 coaxially with the upright nipple 6 and is threaded at the top and connected with the steam valve 7 the water line, and by the nipple l6 and elbow 17 with the nipple pipe 18. A horizontal nipple 9 is screwed into the branch of the T 14 and is connected by the elbow 20 to the upright nipple 19 and inlet valve 10, fitted at the top with a funnel 11.
The fittings 6', 6, 14, 9, 20 and 19 constitute charge-receiving means below the inlet valve 10.
In practice to introduce the charge of petroleum into the boiler the valves 7 and 8 respectively above and below the water line are closed and then the valves 10 and 12 are opened thus draining the charge-receiving chamber formed by the nipple 19 and elbow 20, horizontal nipple 9, T 14, upright nipple 6 and elbow 6'.
Then, the valve 12 is closed and the charge of petroleum or other antiscale liquid is poured into the funnel 11, which, being open to the atmosphere adjacent to and above the open valve 10, provides escape therethrough for air and other gases accumulated in the connections below the funnel and thus allows the liquid to fill the chamber formed by the elbow 6, the upright nipple 6, the body and lower limb of T 14, the horizontal nipple 9 and the upright nipple 19 and inlet valve 10.
Then, the valve 10 is closed and the valves 8 and 7 are opened with the result that the liquid in the connections above the elbow 6 is forced downwardly by the steam pressure in the boiler, so that the liquid thus finds its way into the boiler through the elbow 6 and the valve 8 at the bottom of the boiler and thereafter thoroughly mixes with the water and the steam in the boiler because of the motion imparted to the liquid by the action of heat thereon.
The petroleum thus introduced by the water in the boiler coats the tubes of the boiler sufficiently.
I. claim.
1. An anti-scale introducing attachment for steam boilers comprising a valve connected with the boiler below the water line; another valve connected with the boiler above the water line; connections between said valves; a drain cock for the connections between the two valves charge-receiving means connected with said connections between said valves; an inlet valve above said charge-receiving means and connected therewith; and means connected with the lastnamed valve and opening to the atmosphere adjacent to and above the last-named valve for introducing a scale-removing liquid into the charge-receiving means through the lastnamed valve.
2. An anti-scale introducing attachment for steam boilers comprising a water valve connected with the boiler below the water line; a steam valve connected with the water valve and also connected with the boiler a scale-removing liquid into the chargeabove the water line; a drain cock for the receiving means through the last-named 10 connections between the two valves; chargevalve.
