FABRIC-COVERED BUTTON.
Application filed April 8, 1921. Serial No. 459,811.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jommnas WEIDMI iL LER, acitizen of the German Republic, residing at Chemnitz, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a F abric-Covered Button, of which the following is a specification.
Buttons covered with fabric are produced in various manners. With all fabric covered buttons of known construction either the lower part of the button embraces the fabric covered upper part or inversely. The buttons of the first type can be manufactured without use of the press but they present the inconvenience that the buttons are not completely covered with fabric but comprise merely a fabric covered head part with frame of metal or other material. The buttons of the second type are completely covered with fabric but they cannot be manufactured without the use of a press. Buttons of this second type ought to be made by the tailor or by the dressmaker as the buttons have generally to be covered with the material of the dress for which they are destined. If it were not necessary to treat every single button in the press this would evidently be of great advantage.
The improved button according to this invention is composed of several parts which are constructed in such a manner that the button can be finished by simply pressing the parts together by hand without the aid of an apparatus. The head part of the improved button is completely covered with fabric.
In orderthat the invention may be clearly understood, I shall proceed to describe the same with reference to the form of construction shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 show in cross section F 7 is a cross section and Fig. 8 is an elevation of the improved button ready for use.
The head part a of the button has the shape of an invertedcup, its edge I) being flanged inwardly as shown by Figures 1 and 2. The lower part c of the button is cupshaped and has an edge (I which is slightly inclined outwards (Figs. 3 and 4). The edge d has vertical incisions e in order to make the edge elastic.
The head part a of the button is covered with a piece of fabric 7'' which is larger than the head part, over which it is placed so that 1ts edges can be twisted together as shown by Figures 5 and 6. whereupon the lower part c of the button is inserted into the upper part a and strongly pressed in so that its elastic edge (1 grips behind the flanged edge b oi the head part. The two parts of the button are thus securely connected the one with the other, the covering f of fabric belng at the same time well stretched upon said head part. The lower part c of the button has sewing holes in the well known manner.
I claim An improved button comprising in compart, a piece of fabric covering sald upper part and having its end twisted so that it can be stored in said lower part of the buttom when the two parts are pressed together, the edge of the lower part being bent outwardly to form a flange behind which the bead-shaped edge of the upper part is gripped, and a bulged out bottom on said lower part having holes designed to serve as eyelets for sewing on the button.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witneses.
