PENNAN'I HOLDER.
Application led July 19, 1922. Serial No. 575,974.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED B. CALDWELL, a citizen ot the UnitedStates, residing at Detroit, in the county of layne and State ot' Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pennant Holders, ot which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to pennant holders, and has as an object the provision ot an exceedingly simple device formed ot a single piece ot wire that may be placed upon the lilling inlet of an automobile radiator' below the cap, to support a pennant.
in illustrative embodiment-of the invention is shown in the accompanying` drawing, in which Fig. 1 is vva perspective vview ot a portion ot an automobile showing the device in place;
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing a pennant staff in cross section, and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing a portion of a pennant statil in the device.
As shown, the device'is 'formed ot a single piece of wire bent adjacent its'central portion to form a bight 10, the two portions 11-12 of the wire upon each side of the bight extending substantially parallel and separated from each other, thus providing a portion of what might be called a neck l? of the device. rlhe wire adjacent the bight 10 is shown bent into a curve 1st oil'set 'from the plane of the two portions 11-12 to provide a seat for one side of the pennant stall 15. Both portions of the wire beyond the portions 'l1-12 are then bent into a substantially circular form, as at 16. adapted. to clasp the filling inlet 17 ot an automoi bile radiator, just below the cap 18 thereof.
After the circle 16 is completed the two portions of the wire are again carried parallel but closely adjacent each other, as at 19-20, and which portions preterably come into contact as at 21 and the extremities of the wire are again separated and formed into hook shaped terminals 22-23, the curve of the hooks being opposed to the curve lel adjacent the bight 10.
Vhen the pennant stal 15 is absent from the holder the extremities 2.223 will impinge against the outer portions of the bight 10, so as to prevent the resiliency of the loop 16 causing the extremities 22-723 to pass through the curve 14 to cause diii'iculty in introduction of the penna-nt sta.
rlhe pennant staff may be placed Ain the device before the same is placed upon the radiator or subsequent thereto and will be held firmly in an upright position since the vertical extent provided by the bight 10 and the separation of the extremities 22 23 will provide a leverage to prevent departure of the stall 15 from the vertical. Because of its simplicity7 the device may be very cheaply produced and easily applied, and
will be found electua-l for the purpose.
Minor changes may be made in the physical embodiment of the invention without departing from its spirit.
I claim:
1. A pennant holder comprising a 'Wire loop adapted to encircle a supporting structure and comprising two encircling portions, a grasping portion provided by an extension of the wire from said encircling portions, and oppositely curved extremities adapted to embrace a pennant staff therebetween and hold the same by resilience of said encircling` portions.
2. A pennant holder comprising a wire encircling portion formed of two separated members, the extremities oiL said members being extended in substantially a single plane from said encircling member` and formed into opposed extremities adapted to grasp a pennant statiq therebetween by resilience of said encircling and extended portions.
3. A pennant holder comprising a single piece of wire tormed into a bight at its center and horizontal separated members extending from said bight, said members adH jacent said bight being formed into a hook shape, the extension of said members being` formed into a circle with the portion beyond the circle approaching each other and brought into substantially the plane of the first named members, with their extremities formed into a hook opposed to said first named hook for support of a pennant holder therebetween.
