One object of my invention is to provide a coiled spring structure in which thejend coils of the springs of each row are connected together ina novel manner that permits the adjacentsprings of a row to rock or turn freely relatively to each other without binding and without twisting or bend ing the connections between said springs.
Another object is to provide a coiled spring structure in which the means for connecting the springs of a row together and the means for holding the rows of springs in spaced relation are of suchconstruction that they do not form sharp projections on one side of the structure.
And still another object is to provide a coiled spring structure having the desirable characteristics above described that is easy to assemble and inexpensive to manuitac-' ture.
To this end I have devised a coiled spring structure that is made up of a number of parallel rows of coiled springs, an integral portion on the end coil of each spring that is bent around or arranged in interlocking engagement with the end coil of an adjacent spring in the same row, thus causing the springs of a row to be pivotally connected together, and tie wires or rods arranged transversely of said rows and connected to the springs in such a way that they hold the ranged transversely of the rows. abl uthe base coil ,or' end coil of each spring bodied in a coiled spring structure made up of number of'rows of vertically-disposed,

The tie wires or rods B each consist of a straight piece of heavy wire provided at intervals with upwardly-projecting portions 2, preferably or substantially inverted V" shape in outline, that pass upwardly through the eyes formed by the bent over terminal portions 1 of the laterally-projecting loops 1 on the end coils of the springs.
In assembling the parts of the structure the tie wires 13 are arranged transverselyof or at right angles to the laterally-projecting loops 1 on the end coils of the springs and tangential to the portions of the end coils around which the terminal portions 1 of said loops are adapted to be bent. The terminal portion of each of said loops 1 is then bent around the end coil of an adjacent spring and doubled back over the projec tions 2 on the tie wire, thus causing the tie wire to be locked to two adjacent springs of the same row by means of one of the projections 2 on said tie wire that projects through the bent over terminal portion of the loop. A coiled spring structure, comprising rows of coiled springs, tie Wires arranged transversely of said rows, and a laterallyprojecting portion on the end coil of each spring extending across the end coil 'oflan adjacent spring of the same row and across one of saidtiewires, and having its terminal part doubled back so as to form an eye that surrounds said tie Wire and said end coil.
