SIDNEY C. HILLS, 0F TORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE TURNER 8:;
SEYMOUR MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF TORItINGTON, CONNECTICUT, A COR- FOBATION OF CONNECTICUT.
CURTAIN rrx'rotan.
Application filed April 28;
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY C. I'IILLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Torrington, county of Litohfield, State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Curtain Fixtures,
of which the following is a full clear, and
exact description.
My invention relates to curtain fixtures and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient fixture of the Hat rod type in which inserts are employed in a new and eiiicient way for mounting the rods in sockets. It further has for its object to produce a new and improved socket for receiving a portion of such an insert.
The following is a description of an em bodiment of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows on a reduced scale a curtain fixture embodying my invention, the same being attached to the frame of a window;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the same partly in section;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same partly in section on the line Fig.2;
Fig. 4 shows an unformed blank from which the socket is made; and
Fig. 5 shows a section on the line 5--5, Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 is the window frame. 2-2 and 33' are telescoping sections of rods of the flattened type, having their ends curved at 4-4:. Each of these curved ends contains a wire 5, termed an insert, which is secured in place by the wrapping of the metal forming the telescoping sections around the same in the ordinary manner. These inserts have portions 6 at the ends of the sections 2-2 which are flattened so as to lie in planes at right angles to the axes of the adjacent portions of the curved sections, the flattened portions 6 being of a greater width than the diameter of the unflattened portions of the inserts. The legs of the inserts are provided on their inner sides with recesses 55' into which the metal of the body portions 3 and 4 is forced so as to hold the inserts in place.
The socket plates 7 are bent so as to have a raised central portion 8, in the crown of which thereare one or more vertical slots 9 whose ends terminate in enlarged portions i921; serial No. team.
10, these enlarged portions being located between the crown 8 and the base of the plate so as to be out of alinement with the metal constituting the crown 8 and in alinement with one another. The base of the socket comprises ears which are provided with perforations for securing the socket in place.
The socket plate before it is bent is shown in Fig. 41,9 being the narrower portion of the slot and 10-10 being the enlarged openings in which it terminates. When this blank is bent up so as to produce the crown 8, the flattened portion 6 can be passed through the openings corresponding to the portions 1010 so that the end of the bracket is firmly supported thereby. In
order to permit this the width of the slot 9 is made at least equal to the diameter of the round portions of the insert.
In order to limit the downward movement of the portion 6, stops 11 are provided, the same being formed by turning outwardly the integral tangs shown in Fig. 4:.
Preferably I make theiinserts in U-form, as shown in Fig. 5, one leg of the U being embraced by the upper portion of a section 2--2 and the other leg being embraced by the lower portion of such section.
As will be evident to those skilled in the art, my invention permits of various moditications without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims.
WVhat I claim is:
1. In a curtain fixture, the combination of a vertically extending flattened rod, in-
serts in the ends .of said rod, said inserts and arranged substantially at right anglesto the remaining portion, of the rod, inserts in the ends of said rod. said inserts having vertical portions in line with the ends of said rod and flattened so as to lie in planes at right angles to the axes of said end por tions, and socket members each having a portion arranged substantially parallel with the base having a vertical slot capable of receiving said member through the upper end thereof to hold said end of the rod in place by engagement of said lateral projections With the inner side of said raised portion, and a stop located below said slot for engagement With the lower end of said U- shaped member.
