FAAAA RICARDO GUERRERO F., GF VALPARAISO', CHILE.
Application filed December 9, 1921. Serial No. 521,274..
T all whom t may concern lBe it known that ll, RICARDO GUERaERoF., a citizen of the Republic of Chile, and a resident of the city of Valparaiso, Chile,
Province of Valparaiso, at Number 206 Salvador Donoso Street, have invented a new and useful Improvement in lnk-Line-Makin Attachments for Typewriting Machines. y invention relates to, an ink-drawing no device, as a further improvement to the line making attachment for typewriters, as described by this your applicant in application Serial No. 369207 filed in the United States Patent Office and allowed on February 23, 315 1921, an application which referred to an invention providing a line making attachment to trace pencil lines eitherhorizontally or vertically, but not ink lines, which may be required for more permanen" work.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved line making attachment applied to an uUn derwood typewriting machine and 'constructed for producing permanent lines in ink' `Figure 2 is ,an enlarged plan view of the ink line making attachment;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3 3, Figure 2; l
Figure 4 is a section on the line l-4, Fig- 60 ure 2;
Figure 5 is a plan view of the slotted guide. i v
My present invention, relates to an inkbearing device and' tracer whichltakes the 95 place of the stylus-like or writing implement in the attachment, asdescribed in appllcation No. 369,207, and consisting of al cylindrical box or tube 1, formed by two sections 2 and 3, screwed together, and bearing at to one of its ends a tracer 4., formed by a small wheel of lenticular cross-section mounted on section 2 in vsuch a way that its axle `is perpendicular to the axis of the tube 1, andiA slightly projecting out of the end of section l5 2. Section 3, bears at its end 6, a rod or bar 7, screwed tothe tube in the directiomof its axis and having a head or button 8,- and serves the rle .of presser of the implement against the paper when at work, by hand to pressure brought to bear on the button end of the rod. Section 3 bears also a pin or screw 5 which goes into two slots cut in the guide thus establishing the connection between the guide and the ink-bearing box 1 t5 as in the case of the guide and holder of application No. 369207, but with the difference that the slots are two in this case, instead of one as in the former application. rlhe two slots of the guide run parallel to the axis of the guide and tube and are connected by'another slot perpendicular to the same axis, thus forming a U shaped slot, whose two parallel branches are situated on planes perpendicular one to the other. These arrangements are made in such a way as to allow the case or tube 1 to be placed in such a position that the pin 5 may go into one of the twoparallel slots, in one of which the pins position will be horizontal and in the other vertical with relation to the surface of the paper. The tracing wheel 4, will be also situated on a' horizontal line in the rst position and will trace horizontal lines on the paper, and will trace vertical lines on the paper, in the second position of the pin 5.
As in the case of application 369207 a, spring 9 is also provided, situated between the pin v5 and the end 6 of thetube or case 1, serves the purpose of exerting a normal pressure on the holder or tracing implement and to yieldingly maintain the same out of con` tact with the work, The spring 9 isl rolled on the outside of the tube or case 1 and situated at its upper end 6, as indicated. With in the case or tube 1, a piece of cotton or wadding 1a is pressed down at its lower end and against the tracer or wheel et, but in such a way as to allow the wheel to move more or less freely though in actual and continuous contact with the wad. The wadding or cot.
suitable ink, preferably the class used for stamp pads.
To apply the invention the tube or case is mounted on aline making attachment, as described in application No. 369207,J but having care that said attachment be provided with the double slotted guide 10, as already described, which may be used either with the pencil or stylus-like implement described in application 369207 or with the `ink-line makton is impregnated previously with somev ing device herein described. The rod 7 is screwed at the end 6 of the case 1, and the pin 5 placed in either a-vertieal or a' horizontal position to the paper, according to the lines that'it is necessary to trace on the paper. 'lhe operator presses the button 6 of the rod 7 and the writing-implement-is brought forward'and the whew);y 4 brought in contact lwith the paper. Sh iild the line to be traced be vertical the pin 5 is placed lin a vertical position, which brings the wheel or tracer'lon a vertical line, and the roller of the typewriter is moved in the ordinary way. The line required being horizontal, the pin is placed horizontally and the wheel 4 'brought to a horizontal line, pressed against the paper and the carriage of the typewriter run from side to side in the sectionV bearing-the rod and pin: 4, the tracer or tracing'fwheel; 5, the pin or connecting screw; 6, 'upper end of tube or' case, on
which 'the rod is Screwed: 7, pressing rod;
8, button off'rod";`9, outward pressing spring, and l0, guide.with U shaped slot.
The numeral 40 indicates the roller platen of a typewriter; 11, the paper to be written upon; 12 and 13, horizontal and vertical lines produced on the paper; and 14, the typewriterv carriage. l5 indicates the stationary type bar guide of the machine; 20, the clip having clamp jaws 21 engaging the outer sides ofthe type bar. guide 25, a guideway on the clip at the top and approximately parallel with the roller platen 40; 26, a slide operating in said guideway; 27, a lug on the slide having threaded engagement with an adjusting'screw 28 swivelled to anv up/ turned lug 29 rigid with the guideway 25, the screw having a knurled head 30. 35 indicates a post von the slide 26, said post supporting the guide 10 with the two-part structure 2 and 3 therein, said parts, except the guide and structure 2 and 3, correspond ing substantially with the similar parts in my above-named application Having thus fully described my inventiem-what I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a line-drawing device of the class described, a tracer wheel, means mounting said tracer wheel, s'aid means comprising a sleeve ,presenting a U-shaped slot adjacent its center, a tubular member mounting said member acting as an ink receptacle and car rying an inking pad in contact with said wheel, and means on said tubular member projecting. through said slot for changing the plane of said wheel on its axis.
2. In a .line-drawing device of the class described.,l a sleeve rpresenting a U-shaped slot, a tubular member slidably and rotatably arranged in saidsleeve, said tubular member being .provided with detachable clamping means projecting through said slot whereby said tubular member may be turned on its axis by moving said clamping means from one leg of said U-shaped slot' to the other, and a tracer wheel disposed at the frontend of said tubular member with its axis transverse to the axis thereof.
3. In a line-drawing device of the class described, a tubular member carrying at the front end an ink pad and a tracerwlieel in Contact with the ink pad,`-and an operating pressing rod at the rear end, a sleeve presenting a U-shaped slot intermediate its ends movably mount-ing said tubular member, a spring surrounding said tubular member retracting the same rearwardly, and means on said tubular member coacting with said slot in said sleeve for turning the axis of said wheel in different positions at approximately right angles, together with means for sliding said sleeve in a plane transverse to the axis thereof.
4. In a line-drawing device of the class described, a tubular member carrying a tracer wheel, means for turning the axis of said wheel in different positions at approximately right angles, and means for displacing said tubular member in a plane transx verse to its axis.
