flat and erected by the purchaser, and con-` sists of a blank cut and creased in a certain peculiar manner, whereby the saine can be arranged and folded to form a rectangular box body having a permanently attached cover, which cover can be used as a means for supporting said body at an incline, and also having a projection or extension for advertising matter, and being provided with card-holding means, all `as hereinafter set forth. c
rihe primary object of my invention is to produce out of a single piece ofinaterial, which has been properly cut and creased, a box adaptedto hold various kinds `of Inaterial orinerchandise, such as candy for eX- arnple, and completely enclose the same, on the one hand, or to beopened and set up for the display of its contents, on the other hand, such box having sutlicient strength safely and securely to hold its contents, or, in other words, notbeing liable to come apart so that the contents will drop through or out of the box body., unless the same when open be turned bot'toin-side-up.
ihrs box .is comparatively simple and 1nexpensive to manufacture, can be easily and quickly set up, and when set up is locked togetherin such a manner that the shape and stability of thehbox 'are maintained, asY
intimated above, and can be opened convene iently and arranged for display purposes.`
Another object is to provide albeit of this character' `with sufficient `area and adequate means for advertising purposes.
@ther objects and advantages will appear in the course of the following description.
l attain the objects andsecure the advantages of iny invention by the nieans illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichi liigure 1 isa plan of a blank out of which may be formed "a box that embodies a practical form of my invention Fig. `2, aper spective view of a box formed out of the aforesaid blank, showing said box closed;
fig; 3, a perspective view of said box when open andset up for display purposes; Fig. li, an enlarged, transverse, vertical section through the closed box, and, Fig. 5, an enlarged longitudinal, vertical. section through the closed box, the central portion thereof being broken out.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts throughout the 'several views.
lWith reference to the blank shown in Fig. 1, it is desired to state that the full lines between sections or parts indicate cuts or slits, while the broken lines between sections or parts indicate scorings or creases.
lt will be observed that the aforesaid blank. has a generally angular formation and' is divided and partially divided or sep` arated `by slits and creases, respectively., into different sections, parts, or members which are erected, folded, and otherwise arranged to form the box and the individual elements thereof. The blank may be said to eonsistof two main sections or divisions, one including the box-body elements and indicated by the letter A, and the other containing the box-cover elements and indicated by the letter B. The blank is positioned in Fig, 1 so that the division A is vertical and the `division B `is horizontal. The division B entends to the right from the right-hand edge near the top of the division A, the two being partially separated by a vertical crease a and short slits b at the ends of said crease.
rlfhe vertical division fr comprises an intermediate vertical section 1, a horizontal upper section 2, and a horizontal lower section 3. The section is oif freni the section 1 by a horizontal slit 1- and a vertical crease 5, and said section forms a separator, spreader, or spacer for the box body. The section 3 is set off from the section 1 by horizontal slits 6 and 7 and an intervening horizontal crease 8, anda vertical slit 9 at the right-hand end of said section 3. ln line with the top and bottoni edges of the section Q/are creases 10-10 which extend to the ends of the crease a, and there are two similar lcreases 1() in line with the top and bottoni edges of the sectionl, the latter creases extending to the righthand edge of the division A `which* is below said crease a. rllhe section 1 has therein two creases 11, and ytwe other creases 1Q and 13, respectively. The rightfhand crease 11 extends between the two inner horizontal creases 10, and the same is continued downwardly at 14. In line with the slit T and the adjacent crease 10, and between the two, is a short slit 15. ifa long, narrow part 16 is set oil by the crease The creases 12 and 13 are continued downwardly across the section 3, such extensions beings)` indicated by the nuinerals 1T and 1S, respectively. A long,` narrow part 19, similar to the part 16 is set off bythe crease 18.
Beyond or above and below the two outer creases 10 the division A is extended to forni two tabs 20. The part designated by 'the nuniei 21 forms the box-body bottoni. the parts designated by the numeral 22 iiorni the boX-bodysides, the parts designated by the numeral forni the box-body ends, the parts designated by the numerals Q4: and 25 iorin separators, spreaders, or spacers, the spacer 24 being` comparatively wide and` the spacer comparatively narrow, and the part designa-ted by the numeral e3 also 'lornis a comparatively wide separator, spreader, or spacer. The parts 1G and 19 constitute corn aratirel narrow seoarators, spreaders, or spacers siinilar to the spacer The tabs 2() are at the unattached terminals oit the ends rlhe section 3 constitutes flap which is designed to receive adyertisine` niatter.
The horizontal division B comprises a large section 26 and two sinaller sections 2l. The sections 2T are'set oil troni the section 23 by two horizontal parallel slits 2S, and Vertical creases Z9-29 which are in line with each other. lllXt-endii'ig between adjacent ends of the slits 2S and the creases l() that are in alignment with such slits are longitudinal or horizontal creases which are divided by and in tnrn divide a transverse or vertical crease, so that there are two longcreases 30 and two short creases Ell, and a long` crease 32,v and two short creases 813.
-ln'the section 26 is a crease 3l: that conv37. The parts ol' the section 2G that enteiid troni the crease a to the crease Si constitute the box-cover top 38, the sanie boing' jointed at and by the transverse crease 32,` and the parts or said section that extend 'troni the Aslits 7i to the creases 29 constitute the boxcoyer sides 3.9-3.9, these being jointed also at and by the transverse creases 33. rlhe part of the top 38 to which'the major portion of said top is jointed at 52 is desig-` nated by the numeral 40, and. the parts of the sides 39 to which the inajor portions or said sides are jointed at B2i-3335i are designated by the nuineral ll. "l'ho part designated by the numeral fl-ii torni` an end of the coier. The sections T torni separators` soreaders, or spacers. (lne terminal of the boavv cover beine` attached to the box body, there are end nienibcrs only at the other terniinal or said cover.
