IMPROVEMENT lN JACKS FOR HOLDING SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,267, dated September 30, 1873; application filed May 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBION K. WASHBURN,
of Bridgewater, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Jack for Holding Boots and Shoes, of which the followingis a specification: 7
The nature of my invention consists in an improved device for inclosin g the last-pin, and in a new adjusting device for the toe-block.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the jack. Fig. 2 is a section of the deviccfor adjusting the toe-block.
Let A represent the base of the jack. 0 is the standard for supporting the heel of the last. D is a pin inserted in the rocking block D This block is operated by the link D bent lever D and screw E the screw E having a fixed nut, E, and a handle, E.
In jacking a boot or shoe, the pin D is inserted into the heel of the last in the ordinary Way; then, by turning the screw E power is exerted, through the bent lever D link D and rocking block D upon the pin D, throwing it forward, and thus pressing the toe of the boot or shoe hard onto the toe-block B thus holding the boot or shoe firmly in position.
I claim as my invention I11 a jack for holding boots and shoes, the combination of the block D link D bent lever D and hand-screw E E when the parts are constructed and arranged as described.
