Description

P. P. BINKIS.
RING KNIFE. APPLICATION FILED MAY4 Patented Oct 51 m Faun B1. is 2 5 attozwugl UNHTEEB STATES PATENT @FFHCE.
7 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, PAUL P. BINKIs, a citizen of Lithuania, residing at Greenport, county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ring Knives, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cutters, particularly twine or thread cutters and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a cutter of this kind which can conveniently be carried on one of the fingers of the operator.
A further object is to provide a cutter with means for guiding the knife blade into and out of its operative position and for locking it in either its operative position or in its position of rest.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and adwantagess thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more clearly set forth.
In the drawing Figure l. is a side view of a ring equipped with a cutting device constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is an end view of such a ring,
partly in section.
Figure 3 is a detail side view of a knife blade and its guide,
view thereof.
The ring 10 of the customary form and made of any suitable material has a crown slitted to provide a vertically distudinal slot 12. i s an upper guide 1 1 by means of which it is slidably supported upon the upper edge of the crown with its blade guided within the slot 12.
The knife 13 has a curved cutting edge 15 IAUL B. BINKIS, 0F GREENPORT, NEW YORK.
BING- KNIFE.
Application filed May 4, 1921. Serial No. 466,672.
The device operates as follows of the openings.

on one side and a lower horizontal slot 16 near its lower edge in which a pin 17 travels PAUL P. BINKIS.
which is transversely passed through the crown to limit the lateral movement of the knife blade in one or the other direction.
Above said horizontal slot the knife blade is provided with two square openings 17 and 18 communicating with similar openings in the outer walls of the crown for the reception of a pin 18 which will lock the knife in either its operating position indicated in dotted lines in figure 2, or in its retracted position of rest between the two parts of the crown formed by slot 12.
Vhen it is desired to use the knife 13, the pin 18 is removed from one of the openings in blade and crown and the knife blade is laterally projected by taking hold of its guide 14 over one of the edges of the crown and the pin 18 is then placed into the other In order to lock the knife with its blade in its position of rest within the slot of the crown the foregoing operation is reversed.
Having thus described my invention what 1'. claim as new and desire to secure by Let- V A device of the class described comprising a ring, a slotted crown on said ring, a knife blade having a lateral. cutting edge guided in the slot of said crown, an upper guide on said knife resting on the upper edge of said crown. said knife having a longitudinal horizontal slot, a pin adapted totravel in said slot for limiting the lateral movement of said blade in either direction, said blade having two perforations above said horizontal slot for the reception of a pin for locking The knife 13 said knife blade in its operative position projected over the lateral edge of said crown,
and in its retracted position f rest within
