PARLUR IE'ILUQR. l
Application filed august at, 1W1.
T 0 all whom it my concern Be it known that T, doHN KLnIN, a citizen of the United States, resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Uhio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Parlor Floor LELIDPS, of which the following is a specification, the principle of the inventlon being herein explained and the best mode in which T have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
This invention relates to parlor floor lamps and has for its object, to provide a pedestal lamp with a floor light enclosed in the base of the pedestal in addition to usual lamps carried at the top of the pedestal, the door light together with the colored translucent panels of the base, producing an attractive ornamental ed'ect and also providing a dim lighting effect, pleasing and restful to the eye when the main lamp is turned old, lighting the room just sufilciently to enable persons to move about the room without danger of stumbling over furniture so that they can see to turn on the main pedestal lamp when desired, making it unnecessary to use the wall switch on entering the room.
The annexed drawings and the following description set forth in detail certain means embodying my invention, the disclosed means, however, constituting but one of the various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be employed.
in said annexed drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the pedestal door lamp,
Figure 2 is a sectional plan viewof the base vlooking down from the line illill of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a'sectional view talren on line ill-Till of Figure 2 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows,
Figure 4: is a plan view of the bottom of the pedestal base.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the pedestal base.
Figured is a wiring diagram of the lamp circuits.
Referring to the annexed drawings, the lamp pedestal comprises a hollow box lihe base 1, having colored glass panels Q and 3 hli in the side walls thereof and colored glass panels a and 5 in the top thereof. The hollow base 1- is supported upon legs 6 and carries centrally of its top a vertical stand d. ll 1?.
derial lilo. llQliMdt.
aid 7. Upon the top of the standard 7 is mounted the usual lamp fixture, comprising the shade 8 and lamp sockets 9 for the incandescent bulbs 10. Associated with the sockets ,9 are the usual chain switch members 11.
The bottom 12 of the box base 1 has mounted therein, the lamp socket 13 adapted to receive the small candle power bulb 14 within the box and having a button switch 15 below the bottom 12.
Current is supplied to the pedestal lamps by means of Wires 16 leading from the wall plug 17, to the base socket 13 and branch wires 18 leading from the wires 16 through the axial passage 19 in the standard 7 to the main lamp sockets 9 at the-top of the standard.
Tn order to provide convenient access to the interior of the base 1 for insertion or removal of the base bulb, the bottom 12 is provided with a hand opening 20 closed by the removable cover 21.
in the normal use of the parlor lamp herein disclosed, the main lamps '10 as well as the base lamp ll will be lighted. When the main lamps 10 are lighted, the base lamp I 141: is useful merely" for ornamental eflect.
it, however, it is desired to leave the room temporarily, the main lamps 10 can be turned off leaving the base light 1t on. The base light 14 will then provide suficient light to enable one to return directly to the pedestal instead of leaving the room in total darkness, making it convenient to use the pedestal lamp to the exclusion of other illuminating means, thus economizing in the use of current. The base lamp 14: when used alone provides a pleasing and restful lighting efifect, somewhat similar to a fireplace, The base lamp 141: also provides an economical means of lighting rooms not occupied, but
