UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn.
. CHARLES M. GRANNIS ANl) LAUREN M. FITCH, OF MORRISVILLE, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN RElN-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,140, dated September 23, 1873; application filed May 31, 1873.
annexed drawings making a part of this spec-.
ification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of our rein-holder in horizontal section. Fig. 2 is a front view, and Fig. 3 an end view of the same.
The nature of our invention consists inthe construction and arrangement of a rein-holder to be attached to the dash-board, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a part of the frame of the dashboard, to which our rein-holder is tobe attached. The rein-holder is composed of two plates, B and C, fastened together so as to clamp A by means of a single screw-0r bolt, a, as shown in Fig. 1. From the lower part of the plate B an arm, D, extends horizontally outward, and is then bent at right angles downward, as shown in Fig. 2. On this lat- I ter part of the arm D are formed lips or ing only a small space to admit of the reins being passed in between this edge of the plate 'B, which is rounded as shown in Fig. 1, and
the end of the rubber. This end of the rubber is beveled to adapt it to any required thickness of reins. At the lower portion of the plate B is formed a projecting guard, 61, as shown in Fig. 2, to prevent the reins from slipping out from under the rubber.
The rein-holder thus constructed may be attached to the dash at any point desired, where it will be most convenient for use.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a rein-holder, the rubber piece G, having a beveled edge, and held edgewise by the lips or catches b b against the rims, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the clamp B C, arm D, with lips or catches b 1), rubber piece G, and guard d, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the above, we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.

LAUREN M. FITCH.
