To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM VVENDER- -HOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York. have invented certa n new and useful Improvements in Elec'tr1c Arc Lamps, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improvement in electric arc lamps, especially such as used in projection apparatus and the like.
The Object of the invention is to provide a lamp with adjustment means that will make it possible to use the carbons in vertil cal and in a 90 angular position.
Another object is to make the apparatus quickly changeable from horizontally to a vertically operating lamp without change of its operating means.

As shown in the drawings, the central support l has a pivot bar 2, upon which pivot bar are mounted the carbon holder supports 3 and 4. The center of the pivot 2 is in alignment with the center point of the formation of the are. The support 1 has a circular portion l whose center is also common with the arc and pivot 2, which circular portion 1. has slots I and l therein. Screws 5 and 6 pass through these slots and are screwed into the carbon holder supports 3 and 4 (see Fig. 3). The carbon holder supports can be swung around the plvot point2 into any desired position, and then "fastened by the screws 5 and 6, obviously both carbon holder supports could be provided with a worm gear and worm if desired. To operate the carbon holder, I mount a gear 8 on the pivot bar 2, which gear meshes tips of the carbons,
with the gear 9 on thelead screw 10, and
with the gear 11 on the lead screw 12, and also meshes with the gear 13 on the driving bar 14, which bar may beoperatedby hand or power. i i
It is readily understood that no matter what position the carbon holder supports are remain intact.
While I have shown and describeda specific structure embodying the principles of my invention, I wish it to be understood that my invention in its broad scope as defined by the claims is not to be limited or put, the operating means for the carbon feed restricted thereto, as many changes in details of construction will readily appear to those skilled in the art without departing from the contemplated spirit and scope of my invention.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In an arc lamp, a plurality of carbon holder supports, means for pivotally mount- 1 ing said supports for independent movement about a common axis, said axis being substantially in alignment with the arcing tips of the carbons. l
2. In an arc lamp, a plurality of carbon holder supports, means for pivotally mounting said supports for independent movement about a common axis, said axis being substantially in alignment with the arcing and means for positioning said holder supports.
3-. Inan arc lamp, a plurality of carbon holder supports, carbon holders thereon, means for pivot-ally mounting said supports for independent movement about a common axis, said axis being substantially in alignment with the arcing tips of the carbons, and means for moving said holders towards and away from said axis irrespective of the pivotal position of said holders.
