UNITED STATES HENRY BARKSCHAT, 0F LOS ANGELES, CALIEORNIAn DRUM OR MOLD CLAMP.
Application led May 31, 1921.
To all wiz-0m t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY BARKsoHA'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Drum or Mold Clamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip-V tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
My invention relates to improvements in clamps for holding them and securing together the different sections of molds, being designed more particularly for use in connection with holding molds in the centrifugai process.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a mold clamp having a plurality of links which jointly form a mold retaining ring, novel provision being made whereby said links may be adjusted to increase or decrease the size of this ring, by simply operating a single control.
In carrying out the above end, several pairs of links are provided, the links of each pair being` pivoted to each other for relative movement according to the size of the mold and a further aim is to provide a pair of concentric rings connected respectively with the two links of each pair, in such manner as to move said links relatively in the required manner.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel construction and association of parts hereinafter described and claimed, the descriptive matter being sup plemented by the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a plan View of a clamp constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view as indicated by line 2-2 of Fig. 1, parts being omitted for the sake of clearness.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates an outer ring which is provided with internal shoulders 2 and 3 adjacent one side, co-acting with a similarly shouldered inner ring 4, whereby the two rings are mounted for relative rotation in either direction. The outer edge of the inner ring 4 is provided with a plurality of worm teeth 5 (3o-operable with a worm 6 Serial No. 473,952.
carried by the outer ring 1 whereby to turn said inner ring in the desired manner. As shown, the worm 6 is mounted in a recess 7 formed in the outer ring 1 and the shaft 8 of said worin extends through suitable bores 9, the ends of said shaft being located in appropriate notches 10 with which the ring 1 is provided. One end of shaft 8 is suitably shaped at 11 so that a socket wrench or other suitable tool may be applied thereto for rotating the worm.
A plurality of pairs of links are so associated with each other as to form a clamping ring adapted to surround the mold 12 whose sections are to be secured together. The links of each pair are designated by the numerals 13 and 14 respectively, said links being pivoted together at one end as indicated at 15. The other end of each link 13 is pivoted at 16 to the outer ring 1, while the other end of link 14 is similarly pivoted at 17 to the inner ring 4. It thus follows that when the two rings are relatively,
moved, the links 13 and 14 will vary their angular relation with each other so as to either increase or decrease the size of the mold clamping ring. By mold clamping ring, I refer to the portion of the links 13 and 14 within the dot and dash circles 18.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that while my invention is comparatively simple and inexpensive, it will be highly eilicient and in every way desirable, particular emphasis being laid upon the fact that only o-ne operation is necessary to simultaneously adjust all of the links 13 and 14, according to the size of the mold to be clamped. c
Since` excellent results may be obtained from the details shown, these details may be followed if desired, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may be made.
I claim:
A clamp comprising two concentrically connected rings, means for relatively turning said rings, one series of curved ,links of greater length than the radius of said rings and having pivotal non-sliding connections at their outer ends vwith circumferentially spaced points of one of said rings, an addiseries of links respectively, whereby the tWo sets of links cooperate in forming a variable size clamping ring Within the outer ring. l0
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
HENRY BARKSCHAT.
