M. I. mimm. METHOD OF MANUFACTURING WAINSCOTS.
v APPLICATION FIL'ED 050.10, 1921. 1,430,996.

METHOD (ll? llfEANUFACTUR-ING "WAINSCUTS.
Application filed December 10, 1921. Serial 1%. 521,484.
1' o mi/ "whom it WZ/(Zy concern Be it known that l, Marin r2 lsinon lion- LIN, citizen of Sweden residing; at Stockholm, tilwedein have invented certain new and u iil improvements in llLlBllllOL'lS of Mann!actnring l ainscots, of which the following is specification.
This invention relates to methods of malt- .ing;- paneled surfaces such as walls, wainscots, ceilings, and the lilze.
This invention relates more particularly to the making of such paneled. siiirfaces in situ employing panels attached to the surface by means of nails screws and the like. and strips around said panels which assist in holding the latter to the surface and in some cases also conceal the heads of the nails or other fastenings.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved method of making such paneled surfaces in site which shall he more expeditions and less expensive than existing methods.
Another object of the invention. is to provide such a method which will allow for ex.- pansional movements of the panels.
Another object of the llT-(QlltlOll is to provide such a mother in which all the nails or other fastcnings will he conce led.
The method according to the present invention consists in securing panels with suitable spacin to the surface to he covered by means of fastenings applied near the edges of the panels securing; to said surface lathe siaces between the panels. filling strips channeled at their front surface and having: flanges overlapping the edges of the panels said filling strips being adapted to permit expansion of the panels, and inserts inn smaller strips in the channels of the filling, strips.
ln order that the invention may be fully umlerstood, there will now he described by \ay of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings a. paneled wainscot in accordance with the invention.
ln these drawings-- Fig. 1 illustrates the front view of the Wainscot during different stages of mannfacture; and
Fig. 2 a section along the line A-B in Fig. 1.
In the drawings 1 denotes support-hoards which are nailed to the wall.
011 these support-boards the panels 2 are fixed by means of nails 3 or other fastenings, leaving spaces 4 between the panels as shown in F 1 and 2. The spaces fl: are adapted to receive filling strips 5, the base portions whereof lie in the spaces but are narrower than the distance between adjacent panels. These strips 5 are provided with flanges ll, extendii'ig over the edges of the panels so as to conceal the nails 3. To facilitate the insertion of the strips 5 in proper position guiding wires 8 of suitable form may he used as shown in Fig. 2. The filling strips 5 are fixed to the support-boards l by means of screws 9. To conceal these latter, which are arranged in a central channel 10 in the filling strips 5, smaller strips 11 are fixed to the strips 5 for instance by gluing. if these smaller strips rise above the surface of the filling strips 5 they may be initred in the points 12.
The form and profile of the stri 3s and panels are of no importance in the present relation.
'lhns for instance the small strips ll do not need to extend over the surface of the filling strips 5 but may be wholly contained the channels 10. In such a case the strips ,1 of course are not mitred.
To facilitate the removing of the small 11 they are glued only at a few iioints or they may be merely pressed into fie channels 10.
l claim:
The method of paneling walls, ceilings and like surfaces which consists in securingpanels with suitable spacing to the surface by means of fastcnings applied near the edges of the panels. securing to said sin'fa-ice in. the spaces hel'wecn the panels filling strips channeled at their front surface and having flanges overlapping the edges of the panels and said fastenings, said filling; strips being adapted to permit expansion of the panels and inserting smaller strips in the channels of the filling strips.
in testimony whereof I ahiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
