Application tiled March 31,.1B20 Serial No. 370,077.
'To all whom 'if vii/1y concern.: i
Be it known that I, linnn S'rnnLnn, a citizen of the United States, residing nt Los Angeles, in thecounty of Los Angeles' and State of Cnlif'ornin7 have invented o new und useful Box Convcyer, of which the following* is n specification.
My invention relates to conveying devices and hnsmore particular relation to :i device in which a power driven conveyor is controlled autonniticnlly by the materiel discharredfron'i the conveyor.
An o ject of the. invention is to provide control means cooperuting with a power driven conveyor for stopping the conveyer when the materiel discharged from the conveyer reaches ny prei'letermined position or zone. und uutonmt-icnlly functioning when` the discharged mntenal is removed from said positiointo causethe lconveyer to operate, said means being arranged to permit o manual translation of n Smgle piece of.
material through seidpredeterminedzone Without effect. on the conveyer. y
A frriher object is to provide u. pou-'er driven conveyor having n clutch mechanism combined with means to 4manipulate the. clutch, said means functioning to throwI out the clutch when the muteiiul discharged from the conveyor. reaches a )redetermined zone in close fornmtion, and arranged to permit amunual translation of u single piero of material through said zone Without affecting the clutch.
Various other objects nud ndvzintilpzes will be more fully :i purent from the following description of tie accompanying'drawings which forni n pu-rt of this disclosure, -ind which illustrate n preferred form of embodiment of. the invention` 0f the drawings: l Figure 1 is zi. top 4plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is n side-elevation.
Fie. 3 is e veutieul section on line 'mL-nf of Iig. 4. n
Fig. 4 is un enlarged longitudinali section of the discharge ond of the device, on lino. :rh-.rtl of Fig, Jl.
Fig. 5 is o. top plan view1 pnrtly broken, ot' u modified form of thc. device, showing;V the ports Vpositioned its they would be when tlu derive is 'fully loaded. the boxes he in g omitted for clearnoss.44
utilized for conveyinglr packed boxes of produce trom n distant polnt. to n receiving tulile for subsequent manuel removal.
-dcvlce it will be assumed that the device' is 0f course it is to be undorstocu'lt'fhnt while thedevico isillustruted ne om` which is adapted to handle boxes, it 1s equally as well adopted for ,lmndlingother material,`
such ns, for instnnce, blocks of ice, pieces of timber or any other objects having o flut side, Iand Llmt by cluingingthe shape ot' the table rollers and the style of conveyor employed the device muy be utilized for lmndlingf` round objects, such us barrels,
sucks of flour or other material, lugs, or sections of pipe. thefibove various 'adeptntions nil coming within the scope otthe present invention which is primarily directed too. clutch control mechanism op- @rated by the nuiternl conveyed, to dis connect und connect the driving means from ysind to the )ower driven conveyer which of.
itself muy e of any desired form.
vwith reference to Figs. l to 4 of the drzrwinns, the device is supported on 'a frame l hoi-ing parallel Sider-nils. 2 3 in which nre journnled u plurality of'A spaced' horizontally disposed idle or fliendl' rollers 4 forming; n receiving table. One-supporting: elen'ient or drum of` en endless conveyor o is txe'd on n. conveyor shaft. 6 having u.. chain sprocket secured to its outer end .adjacent the side-rail 3. A clutch shaft 8 isjournaled in brackets 9-10 depending from the side rails :1nd has tixed to one end n chninsprocket 1l which is in driving commction with the conveyer sprocket 7 through :i ehnin 12.
Keyed to the shaft S, adjacent the inner face ot' the -side-rail 3 is a clutch member i3 providing ai seat 14 ns a `pivot journal for a clutch dog 15 which is normally spring arm and for simultaneous engagement by a plurality of pieces of said material for a bodily translationV of said arm to shift the clutch operating member.
6. A device of the class described combining a movable conveyer, a power drive therefor, a clutch intermediate said drive, and the conveyer, a stationary receiving table adjacent the conveyer, and a clutch operating mechanism associated with the tahle for manipulation b. the material moved along the table. sai( mechanism including a member, functioning to throw out the clutch only when engaged at relatively spared points hy said material` T. A device of the class described combining a movable conveyer, a power drive therefor. a clutch intermediate said drive and the conveyer, a receiving table adjacent the conveyer, a clutch operating member, means yieldingly maintaining said member in normal position. and a plurality of elements pivotally connected with the clutch operai:n ing member and projecting into the path of the material moved along the table.
8. A device of the class described combining a movable conveyer, a power drive therefor, a-Qlutch intermediate said drive and the conveyer,-a receiving table adjacent the conveyer, a clutch operating member, means yieldingly maintaining said member in normal position, a rocker arm pivotally connected to said member, relative] spaced vertical shafts journaled respective y at one side of the table and pivotally connected to o posite ends of the rocker arm, and arms respectively to the vertical shafts and extending over the table into the path of the material moved along the table.
9. A device of the class described combining a movable conveyer, a power drive therefor, a clutch intermediate said drive and the conveyer, a receiving table adjacent the conveyer, and a clutch operating mechanism associated with the table and including re1- atively spaced elements proiecting over the table for engagement with one side of the material moved along the table.
Signed at Los Angeles, California this 26th day of March 1920.
