Application filed December 28, 1921. Serial Nd.' 525,458.
To all 1.071 om .it may con-cera: l
.Be 1t known that'I, HENRY ROBERT Easels,
subject .of the King of the United Kingdoln of Great Britain and Ireland, and resident of London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement inPhotographic-Printing Apparatus, for which I have filed an application in Great Britain,
26,723, September 18, 1920.
This invention relates to photographic printing apparatus and has for its object to provide an improved construction and arf rangement of such apparatus `adapted for of the usual processes.
. use inter alia in Lproducing multiple designs,
images or impressions on plates, lithographie stones or the like, for the purpose'of printing inone yor more colours therefrom byy any In accordance withk one `feature of the invention the improved apparatusrincludes l a framework` or Acarriage which can be traversed over a bench or table on which .are arranged the sensitized surface and the neg- .y atives or the like, the framework being arof wood or other suitable material withy adjustable subdividing bars and with true right angles, when required, for the purpose of registering the position of the images on the sensitizedsurface by placing the right angles of the negativeor plurality7 of negatives or the like into the right angles of the registering frame. p
In accordance with one embodiment the carriage adapted to travel over the bench or table supporting the sensitized surface on which the registering Aframe isplaced supports an auxiliary carriage adapted to travel transversely of the main carriage so that the auxiliary carriage may beybrought into a position directly above vany part of the`\registering frame on the bench or table. From the auxiliary carriage are suspended a plurality of legs adapted to be lowered intocontact with a thick covering sheet ot plate glass laid on the negative or the like in tlie frame in such wise as to hold the negatives rigidly in position. Suitably there is interposed between the freely hanging legsland the auxiliary carriage an inflatable member on inflation of which the'legs areV forcedV by the pnuematic pressure against the covering plate glass. The auxiliary carriage preferably carries also electric or other lamps for thel purpose of printing by the light emitted thereby upon the sensitized plates supported as above described.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. l showsy in eide elevationjpartly in section the travelling framework. or carriage supported on an entension of the table. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the nmain and auxiliary carriages with parts omitted for the sake of clearness. Fig.' 31. lis a section through the supporting bench or table and showing the manner in which the main carriage is supported thereon. Fi 4 to 7 .represent in plan several forms o registering frames.
As shownin the drawings and in accord ance with the invention the improved apparatus includes a bench, or table a` along two outside edgesof which are arranged on bars b bolted to the table supporting rails bl for rollers c mountedon laterally extending `bars c of 4an upright carriage d the bars c tending to `prevent `the raising of the carriage from the table. On the upper surface dof this carriage on rails e is mounted an auxlliary sliding carriage f 1n such manner that this auxiliary carriage may travelv transversely ofthe main carriage. `Suspended from this auxiliary carriage by means of a screw threaded rod 71. engaging ina screw ,threaded bush z' attached to kthe i `carriage. is a separable spring-,connected housing lo containing an inflatable elastic vessel l, and from the lower portion oi' this housing are suspended a plurality of depending legs m. `Fromairamingnattached to the auxiliary `carriage f are suspended electric or other lamps 0 which travel with the carriage. y y y n On the tabletop a is `placed on a slateor other bed p a registering frame g such as shown in Figs. 4 to 7 This `frame is iitted with subdividing bars g formed with true right angles .into which the `negative or negatives or the likefrom Which'the impression is to be made on the sensitized surface are inserted. On the top of the negative is strip of wood, the covering plate glass is laid thereon and the other spaces not being utilized in the frame are suitably covered to protect the sensitized surface beneath the frame. The carriages are now traversed until the depending legs are in position above the covering glass plate. By means of the wheel 11 the screw threaded rod is turned until the legs bear on the covering glass plate whereupon air is forced through the pipes to the inflatable vessel whereupon the depending legs are caused to press more rmly on the covering plate glass. The electric or other lamps are switched on and the printing carried out. When the print ing operation is completed air is allowed to escape from the inflatable vessel, the wheel fr is turned until the legs are clear of the covering glass plate and the carriages moved along the table out of the way to permit access to the surfaces treated.
I claim l. Photographic printing apparatus including a table to receive a sensitized surface and photographic plate, a carriage hav-' ing guided movement upon said table into position over said plate, and pressure-applying means mounted on said carriage and i supported thereby for exerting pressure on said plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. Photographic printing apparatus' including a table for a sensitized surface and a photographic plate, a carriage adapted to be moved along said table into position over said plate, and pressure-applying means mounted on said carriage for exerting pres-A sure on said p late, lsaid pressure-applying means including an auxiliary carriage supported on said first-mentioned carriage.4 depending legs supported by such auxiliary carriage and means for lowering said depending legs to exert pressure on said plate.
Photographic printing apparatus in cluding a table to receive a sensitized surface and a photographic plate, a carriage adapted to be moved along said table into position over the plate, and pressure-applying` means mounted on said carriage for exerting pressure on the said plate, said pres` sure-applying means including an auxiliary carriage supported on said first-mentioned carriage, depending legs supported by such auxiliary carriage and an inflatable elastic chamber interposed between the depending legs and said auxiliary carriage, substanA tially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. Photographic printing apparatus including a table to receive a sensitized surface and a plurality of photographic plates, a carriage adapted to be moved along said table into position over any of said plates, and pressure applying means mounted on said carriage for exerting pressure on any of saidA plates, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. y
5. Photographic printing a paratus in cluding a table for a sensitize surface and a plurality of photographic plates, a carriage adapted to be moved along said table into position over any of said plates, and pressuieapplying means including an auxiliary carriage supported on said iirst-men tioned carriage, depending legs supported by such auxiliary carriage and means for lowering said depending legs to exert pressure on any of said plates.
6. Photographic printing apparatus including a table to receive a sensitized surface and a plurality of photographic plates, a carriage adapted to be moved along said table linto position over any of said plates, and pressure-applying means mounted on said carriage for exerting pressure on any of said plates, said pressure-applying means including an auxiliary carriage supported on said first-mentioned carriage, depending legs supported by such auxiliary carriage and an inflatable elastic chamber interposed between the depending legs and said auxiliary carriage, substantially and for the purpose set forth.
7. Photographic printing apparatus including a table adapted to receive a sensitized surface and a photographic plate thereon, a carriage having guided movement on the table thereby to be positioned above the plate, pressure applying means for ex erting pressure on tie plate supported by the carriage and movable therewith, manually controlled means between the carriage and the pressure applying means for moving the same toward `and fromV the table, and fluid pressurev control means between said last named means and the pressure applying nieans for operating said means to clamp the plate upon the table.
In testimony whereof l have sig-ned my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. HENRY ROBERT EASON Witnesses:
