IMPROVEMENT IN CANS FOR PAINT, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,971, dated September 16, 1873; application filed June 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER E. WALKER, of Cineinnati,in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Paint-Gan, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a paint-can composed of a metal cylinder with wooden heads at each end, secured, by a flange of the cylinder end turned over the outside and a bead raised on the inside of the cylinder against the inside of the head, by impressing a groove in the outside of the cylinder, and one of the heads with a large opening through it to allow of putting in and removing the paint, and a plug or bung is used to close the hole.
The drawing is a sectional elevation of my improved paint-can.
A is the metal cylinder, and B and O the heads, of wood. These heads are secured by a head, a, and flange b milled down at the sides of their edges after they are fitted in the cylinder; or, if preferred, the bead may be formed beforehand. D is the opening in one of the heads, and E the plug or bung for closing it.
By this arrangement I make a cheaper and also a more durable can than can he made of sheet metal, wholly.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A combined paint-bucket and packing-can, consisting of a metallic bailed cylinder, A, the non-removable wooden heads B O, and the plug D, constructed and put together substantially in the manner described.
