To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. FRAzIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Greenfield, in the county of Dade vand State of lvlissournhave invented certain v 'new and useful Improvements in Branding Irons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingf drawings. v
This invention relates to branding irons, and has for its object to provide a device of this character capable of being usedior branding purposes for anyv length `of time without linterruptance, previously necessary in order to heat the branding iron.
`Itl isv another object 'of Ithe invention to provide a device of this character wherein the branding ironis constantly heated andcapable of being used similar to a lighting implement, to make the branding charactersA necessary', without interrupting the branding operation for heating purposes.
It is another object of they invention kto provide a device of this character including a support and fuel reservoir and a nozzle adapted to discharge a iame directly into a branding member or iron, means Abeing provided to regulate the temperaturev of the iron.
It is a further object lof the invention to provide a device ofthis character wherein I thethandle member of the device also serves asa support for the fuel reservoir and the branding iron.
It is still a further object of the invention to provide a device of this character includinga handle member to which a heating chamber is connected, said chamber having a branding iron engaged therewith and extendinginto-the, chamber, and a fuel supply tank or reservoir provided by the handle and having a nozzle communicating therewith, said nozzle extending into the chamber to direct the iiame thereointo-the branding iron, saidheating chamber serving as heat insulating means vand as a the flame of the nozzle.

Connected to the pipe 9, is an elongatedv nozzle 10 which` serves yas a burner for a-A valve chamber 11 at one end, said valve chamber having a port 12 inwhich'one end of the pipe 9 is disposed. A valve 13 isdisposed within the chamber 11 and adapted to control the flowof luidthrough the bore of the nozzle 10. Y
Projecting from the socket 6 of the tank is an elongated handle 14, said handle -eX- tending a considerable distance below the l tankand having its lower end portion dis-z posed in'aisocket 15 carried by` a base member 16. y Projecting from the socket member '7 is a substantially arcuate brace 17, the oppositeend of said brace terminating adjacent the bottom of the tank and in spaced i relation to the bottomof .the tank. In connection with .thenozzle, a chamber or housing 18 is provided, said chamber tapering from its intermediate portion to its ends Vso that in rear elevationl the `chamber 'v is substantially a trapezoid.y The front portion .19 and sides 2O merge/substantially. to 100 vide `a semi-dodecahedron. At the same time, the opening in the rear Wall 2Q provides air inlet for the flame. rl'he lower portion of the chamberr serves as a heating,` compartment, While the upper portion serves as a cooling compartment, the cooling compartment being,` provided with a series openings to permit the escape of heat should the temperature become greater than that necessary for heating the iron.
The branding iron co-nsists of a substantially `l"`sliaped member includingv a head 25, and central extension 2G, the head 25 and extension 26 beingl hollovv. rlhe extremity of the extension 26 terminates adjacent the extremityoi1 the nozzle l0 so that the flame of the nozzle is directed into the extension through the medium ofthe air passing through the opening. ln this Way, the iron receives the direct force of heat, and as the nozzle is constantly supplied'by the tank 5 the iron can be maintained at the same temperature indenitely so that the branding` operation may pr ceed Without interruptions for heating' the iron. The end portion 27 of the iron is open, to permit the escape of heat toa large extent and also the admission of air in the cooling 'process of the iron should the temperature become too great. What is claimed is l.
