. INVOICE SHEET.
Application filed October is, 1920. Serial No. 417,655,
To all whom it may Concern:
Be it known that I, 'Jnssn A. B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing in Stamford, in the county of F airfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Invoice Sheets, of which the following is a specificationn i a This invention relates toentry sheets for use in a typewriting machine, such, for ex ample, as a bill-head or statement-sheet upon rarily binding time the end of the month is reached, the bill or statement is not in a neat or presentwhich successive items are entered from time to time or from day to day for a suitable period, commonly until the end of a month, when the completed statement is sent to the customer. Such sheetshave been commonly provided with a detachable ginal part or lateral filing margin for tempoor filing thejentry sheet between the times of the typing of tllESUCCGS,
sive entries or items thereon. This filing margin is torn 05 before sendingthe bill or statement to the customer, in order thereby to give a neat and pleasing appearance to the bill Jbythe removal of this of large holes for use in the temporary filing or binding of the'entry sheet.
By reason of the repeated insertions of the entry sheet into the typewritingmachine, the top or leading edge thereofand particularly the upper corners have a tendency to become worn and frayed, so that by the able condition 'for sending, to the customer. This poor or damaged'condition of the sheet has been in large part caused by the tendency of the corners at the top or leading end of the sheet to catch upon parts of the typewriting machine.
An objectof the invention is to produce anentry sheet or vstatement-sheet in which the part which is to ,besent to the customer will not present fraying or other imperfection due to having been. put through the typewriting machine many times, and fur thermore in this connection to produce an entry sheet having a detachable filing. mar-j gin, while leaving the entry-containin b' part "of the sheet in symmetrical shape for sending to the customerafter the filing margin has been torn 0H. "According to the present invention, the
" entry sheet comprises a body part for re lefthand mar unsightly part, which cjommonlyis provided with a plurality ceiving the successive items or entries, a de tachable lateral marginal part at one side of the body part an'd'providing for the temporary filing of the sheet between the times of making the successive entries, an upper extension projectingfrom the top of only the body part, to'the exclusion of the de tachable lateral filing-j marginal part, said extension carrying rounded corners, thus pro-j viding for or facilitating thepassage of the entire width of the sheet (including said margmalpart) through the typewriting ma-y chine repeatedly without tearing', fraying or and also ,probody part of pleasingsymj particular sheet, is shown-as made up of an item-receiving lower part1 upon'which the various items may be successively entered, and an upper detachable stub part 2 to con-, tain the customers address and to be returned by him with his check, as has here toii'ore been customary. The stub part 2 is shown as joined tothe entryacarrying part 1 by means of a line of perforations 3 as common heretofore. The entry sheet is provided at the left side of the body part A thereofwith a filingmargin or lateral marginal' part 4, having therethrough large holes 5, shown as two in number,for'convenience in temporarily binding or filing the entry sheet by its marginal part 4, between the times of the making ofthe successive entries upon the lower part 1 of the body part The lateral'marginal part or filin margin 4: is joined tothe mainbody part comprising the lowerlpart thereof 1 and the upper part'thereof 2, by means ofa verticalweakened line of detachment, indicated in the drawing as a line of perforations 6, whereby the lateral filing margin 4 maybeaccurately aIlid easily detached from the main body part'A before sending the latter to the customer. i
' end of the filing margin 4, as shown at the left in the drawing, and as indicated at the right by the detached indicating line 8. This upwardly projecting extension 7 forms the upper end or leading edge of the main body part A, which is eventually sent to the customer. The top extension-7 is added for the purpose of providing blunt or rounded corners 9, which, by reason of their rounded shape, facilitate therepeated passage of the entire width of the sheet through the typewriting machine without perceptible wear or damage to the corners or leading ed e of the sheet provided by this extension to be noted that the top extension 7 extends along the full width of the upper end of the entry-carrying body part A, but that it terminates at the vertical weakened line of detachment 6, so that, while this upper extension projects above, it does not extend along the upper end of the lateral filing marginal part 4, whereby the rounded corners 9 are carried by the upper end of the body part A, at the top of the detachable stub part 2, to the exclusion of the detachable lateralfiling marginal part 4:, the upper end of which terminates at a line along which the upperextension 7 isjoined to the top of the body part A, as is clearly shown in the drawing.
It will now be evident, by reason of the;
carrying; out of the present invention as above described, that at the end of the month and after the usual tearing off of the filing margin 4 along the vertical line of perforations 6, which removes and does away with this now unnecessary and more or less unsightly marginal part, the main body part A of the bill orstatement, together with its upper extension 7 will be of symmetrical outline with two lower square corners and two upper similarly rounded corners 9, thereby presenting a pleasing appearance. Also it will be evident that this main body part A when sent to the customer will still be in good condition without appreciable wear or other evidenceatthe top or elsewhere of having been passed repeatedly through the typewriting machine in making the various entries thereon.
Variations may be resorted to withinthe nating at said vertical weakened line of de tachment to form a leading edge for the body part and having blunt right and left upper corners to be carried by and remain upon the upper end of the body part after the detachment therefrom of the lateral filing marginal part. I
2. For use in a typewriting machine, an entry sheet comprising a body part for having successive entries typed thereon, a lateral filing marginal part at one side of the body part and detachably connected therewith along a vertical weakened line of'detachment providing for easy detachment of'the filing marginal part from the body part when the entries on the body part are complete, and an upper extension projecting from and extending along the full width of the upper end of the body part to form a leading edge therefor and having bothof its corners rounded, said upper extension terminating at said vertical weakened line of detachment, so that both of said rounded corners will be carried by the upper end of the body part, whereby said rounded cor-" ners will facilitate the repeated insertion'of the entry sheet in the typewriting machine,
and will thereby prevent the leading end of the' body part from becoming appreciably worn or frayed by reason of such repeated insertion, and also whereby the upper end of the body part will be left in symmetrical shape with similar rounded right and left upper corners after the detachment there-V from of said lateral filing marginal part;
3. For use in a typewriting machine, an entry-sheet comprising a bodypart for having successive entries typed thereon, a lateral filing marginal part at one side of the body part and detachably connected therewith along a vertical weakened line formed by a series of perforations providing for easy detachment of the filing marginal part from the body part when the entries on the body part are complete, said filing marginal part having holes therethroughfor the purpose of filing the entry-sheet between the times of the making of the successive entries on the body partthereof, and an upper extension projecting from and extending along the full width of the upper end of the body part and terminating at'said vertical weakened line of detachment to form a leading edge for the body part and having rounded right and left upper corners to be carried byand remain upon the upper end of the g body part afterthe detachment therefrom of the lateral filing marginal part.
4. For use in a typewriting machine, an
entry-sheet comprising a body part for having successive entries typed thereon, a lateral "with alonga Vertical filing marginal part at the left side ofthe body part and detachably connected there- With along a vertical weakened line of detachment providing for easy detachment of the filing marginal part from the body part when the entries in the body part are complete, the filing marginal part having holes therethrough for the purpose of filing the entry-sheet between the times of the making of the successive entries on the body part thereof, and an upper extension projecting from and extending along the full Width of the upper end of the body partand terminating at said vertical weakened line of detachment to form a leading ed e for the body part and having rounded rig t and left upper corners to be carried by and remain upon the upper end of the body part after the detachment therefrom of the lateral filing marginal part.
5; For use in a typewriting machine, an entry-sheet comprising a body part for having successive entries typed thereon, a lateral filing marginal part at the left side of the body part and detachably connected thereweakened line of detachment providing for easy detachment of new to be carried the filing marginal part from the body part When entries in the body part are complete, the filing marginal part having holes therethrough for the purpose of filing the entrysheet-between the times of the making of the successive entries on the body part thereof,
n and an upper extension projecting from and ment therefrom of the lateral filingmarginal part, the lateral filing marginal part terminating at its upper end at a line on which the upper extension is joined to the top of the body part, so that the upper end of the lateral marginal filing part Will. be
below the upper edge of the upper extension of-the body part to the extent of the Width of the upper extension.
