urrEo JAMES STANLEY DREW, OF PERTH, AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA.
COSTUME, GARMENT, on LIKE WEARING APPAREL FOR BATEHING, swIr/IMING, OR
LIFE SAVING.
Application filed September 20, 1919. Serial No. 325,144.
To (4% whomv it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES STANLEY DREW, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing .at Perth, WVestern Australia, Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Costumes, Garments, or like Wearing Apparel for Bathing, Swimming, or Life-Sav ing, of which the following is a specification.
swimming and lifesaving of the type having a single inflatable buoyant system arranged in, upon, or integral with the costume, garment or the like.
The object of the invention is to simplify such devices in construction and to render them more effective in action.
According to the invention the system comprises a single continuous endless tubular air chamber depending from the shoulders to the waist line and passing round the garment in a serpentine manner with no two parts thereof overlapping, such tubular air chamber being positively attached to the garment.
The accompanying drawings illustrate embodiments of the invention as applied in connection with an ordinarily-shaped bathing or swimming costume.
In the drawings Figure l is a front view illustrating two tubes passing overthe shoulders and converging to a common point at the front and back, or at the front or back only.
Figure 2 is a back view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front view of a modification, the tubes passing over the shoulders to the waist in U-shape fashion at the front, and at the back as well, if required.
Figure 4 is a further modification in his invention relates to costumes, garments, or like wearing apparel for bathing,
which the tubes pass over the shoulders and under the arms around the waist and neck at the back. i
Figure 5 is a back View of Figure 4:, and
Figure 6 is a modification of Figure 1 in which the shoulder portions of the tubes are enlarged relatively to the lower portion or vice versa, a feature which is equally applicable to any of the tubular systems'shown.
In carrying out the invention a is a costume or garment provided with tubes 1) to pass over and from each shoulder to or about the waist of the body. In somecases the tubes 72 may pass under the armpits and around the waist. I
The tubular system may be formed in, on, or upon the fabric of the costume, garment or the like.
The inflation or deflation can be effected by a tube 0 with valve, which tube is connected to tube 7).
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A garment of the character described, having an inflatable bouyant system comprising a single continuous endless tubular air chamber depending from the shoulders to the waist llne and passing round the garment in a. serpentine manner with no'two parts thereof overlapping, such tubular air chamber being positively attached, to the garment.
2. A garment as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the said tubular chamber passes round the neck at the back thereof, and round the waist, also at the back thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JAMES STANLEY DREW.
