and has for its object to" provide'a device of this character which is preferablyformed from paper or other fibrous material, and so constructed that an article to be displayed may be attached thereto and held against a support, such for instance as a window glass by members provided with adhesive material thereon.
A further object is to provide a display device comprising a body portion having said body portionbeing provided with integral members the marginal edges of which are provided with adhesive material, said integral members being adapted to be bent sively attached thereto, in such a manner as to hold the carton in engagement with the support. Also to provide a carton holding device which may be attached to a window for displaying the carton, said device also forming a sign on which various advertising matter may be printed.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the preciseembodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of whatis claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. 7
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of one of, the blanks for forming the displaydevice, showing the inner side of the device.

Figure 8 is perspective view of another form of holding device wherein the rear vertical; corners of the carton or box extend through vertically disposed openings in the body oftheiholding device.
- gure 9 is a horizontal sectional View through the box holding portion of the device shown in Figure 8, showing a carton or box being held therein in engagement with a window frame. I
' Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Figures 1 't0 a inclusive, the 1111- meral 1 designates the body portion of a sheet. of material, which sheet of material may be formed from cardboard, paper or from any other material, however preferably from heavy, paper or cardboard. The body portion 1 is substantially rectangular shaped, and maybe provided with vertically disposed indentations or scorings 2 and horizontally disposed indentations, or scorings 3, which indentations or scorings form -a rectangular shaped body as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2. The corners of,
the body portion 1 are provided with V- shaped incisions 4, which form triangular shaped lugs 5,adapted to be bent inwardly on scored lines 6 for engagement under the top 7 and the bottom 7 of acarton 9 in which goods are disposed, and which cartons are desired to be displayed, on a window, show case or a door, where it can be easily and readily observedby an approachton 9 maybe held as shown in Figure 2, or ata reverse inclination if so desired. 'Exmembers 10, which members may be provid ing customer. It will be seen that the cared with a line 11 on which a bend'may be obtained which will be straight after the members 10 have been bent inwardly on the lines 2. After the members 10 have been bent to a vertical plane on the lines 11, the integral members 12 which extend outwardly from the upper and lower ends of the rectangular shaped body member 1 are bent in the same direction as the integral members 10 until their angularly disposed edges 12 engage the angularly disposed edges 10 of the members 10, thereby forminga dished support as clearly. shown in Figures 3 and 4:. After the members12 have been bent as set forth, they are again bent on the lines 13 until their gummed portions 14 are in the same plane as the gummed portions 15 of the members 10, at which time, after the gummed portions 1 1 and 15 have beenmoistened, the device as a whole may be adhesively attached to a glass 16 of a window door or show case in such a manner that the carton 9 will be held'in engagement with the glass 16 so that itmay be observed by a customer or attract-the attention of a prospective customer.
Byforming the device from paper or other sheet material, it is obvious that it may be easily and compactly packed for shipment and storage and set up as desired. Referring to Figures 5 to 7 inclusive, it will be seen that a strip of material 17 is provided, which strip is provided with ,adhesive material 18 at its ends and with a plurality of tongues 19. which tongues may be bent outwardly as shown in figure 7 in such a manner as to engage the sides of a carton 20 for holding the carton in engagement with one surface of the glass 21, after the adhesive 18has been moistened and the device bent to the forms shown in 1: igure 6 and adhesively joined to the glass. The tongues 19 are formed integral with the sheet 17, and it is obvious that the tongues when in the same plane as the sheet-17 will allow the sheets to be compactly packed for shipment.
Referring to Figures 8 and 9, the device in this form comprises an elongated strip 22, which strip is adapted to have printed thereon advertising matter and is provided with adhesive material 23 at spaced points. The strip 22 is bent at 24 at an obtuse angle to the portion 22 and at 25 so as to form a box receiving portion 26 in the sameplane as the strip 22. After the box receiving portion 26 has been formed the stripis bent at 27 to form an angularly disposed portion 28 extendin towards the pane of glass 29 and is bent at 30 to form the adhesive carrying portions'31' in the same plane as the strip 22. The strip 22 isiprovided with oppositely disposed and opposed U-shaped slots. 32, which have their arms terminating" adjacent the bending points 25 and 27, thereby providing means whereby whenlthe bends 25 and 27 are formed, vertically disposed recesses 83 are provided. which recesses receive the rear vertical cor ners 34 of a carton or box 35, which is held against displacement and in engagement with the plane 29.
From the above it will be seen. that a carton or box displaying device is provided, which device is preferably formed from bendable material, and which may be easily and quickly bent to form for positivelv and rigidly holding a carton preferably in engagement with a transparent support,-such for instance as a window glass, a door'gla'ss, or a showcase. glass.
The invention havingbeen set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A display device formed froma sheet of material, means carried by said Sheet'of material whereby an article maybe attached thereto, said sheet of material being adapted tobe aflixed to a supporting element to cover diflerent areas thereof and to' support articles of different size between the sheet of material and the supporting element. 1 1 r v y 2. A display device formedfrom a sheet of material, lugs carried by and formed integrally with the sheet of material and adapted to engage an articlefor holding the same on thesheet of material, said sheet of material being adapted to be affixed to a supportingelement to cover different areas thereo'fand to support articles of difi'erent size between the sheet ofv-materialnandthe supporting elementJ I 3. A. display device comprisinga sheet of material, means wherebyan article to bedisplayed maybe attached thereto, an adhesive material carried by said sheet and forming means whereby the sheet at spaced ,points may be attached to a support, said sheet of material'being adapted to be affixed tothe support to cover different areas thereof and to support articles of different size between thesheetof material and the support. v
in display device formed from a sheet :of material, said device comprisinga rectangular shaped body portion formed by scored lines, means whereby an article may .be attached to said body portion, outwardly extending members carried by the sides and ends of the rectangular shapedbody portion and having their edges diverging but spaced from the adjacent edges of the adjacent portion, therenv allowinonthe outwardly-j extending portions when bent on their scored lines to come' together for form ing a dished member and adhesive material carried by said outwardly extendingportions adjacent their outer edges and forming vmeans whereby the display devicewmay bev attached to a support,
5 A blank for forming an article display device, said blank comprising a rectangular shaped sheet of material, a rectangular shaped central ,portion formed by. scored lines, means disposed in said rectangular shaped portion whereby an article to be disposed may be attached thereto, outwardly extending portions carried by the sides of the rectangular shaped portion and formed by V-shaped notches extending inwardly from the corners of the sheet of material and having their converged ends terminating adjacent the corners of the rectangular shaped portion and adhesive material carried by said outwardly extending portions adjacent their edges and forming means whereby the device may be adhesively attached to a support.
6. A display device for articles, saiddevice being formed from asheet of material and dished, means for attaching an article within the dished portion thereof means for attaching the device to a window pane, and means whereby the sheet of, material may be extended to all of its sides to cover dif ferent areas of the window pane, whereby articles of difierent size may be held between the sheet and window pane.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
I EDMUND M. PITTS.
