WASHBOARD CLAMP.
icensee.
I Application filed June 16,
exact description of the invention, such as designates a stationary wash-tub,
will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved clamp which is especially designed for hold ing a wash-board in an immovable position in a wash-tub to prevent the person doing the work from leaning over onto the board and holding it against unnecessary movement in this way as is usually done.
The principal object of the invention is to generally improve upon the devices of this class by the provision of one of treme simplicity and durability which is such in construction that it permits the board to be positioned at numerous angles and effectively holds it in any of such posi tions.
Other features and advantages of the invcntion will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of one of the clamps showing the same in use.
Figure 2 is a sectional. view taken substantially on the plane of the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged side elevational view of one of the clamps detached from the board and tub. I I
Figure lis a sectional view taken substan tially on the plane of the line 4-t of Fig. 8.
Referring to the drawings the letter A B designates a conventional type of wash-board and C designates the side bars or legs of the board.
My improved clamp comprises a substantially U-shaped body or yoke 1, one of the arms of which is provided with a lateral projection 2 formed with a screw-threaded hole. The other arm carries an integral Specification of Letters Patent. Pg i -qgntigd Aug 29, 1922 1921. Serial No. 478,118.
lateral projection which may be conveniently termed a jaw, since it is designed to engage one of the side pieces C of the wash-board. Extending through the screwthreaded hole is a thumb-screw a which is disposed at substantially right angles to the arms of theyokes. On the inner end of this screw is a swivelled head 5 which is designed for engagement with the outer face of the tub A as indicated in Fig. 1.
In use, two clamps are used and one is placed adjacent one of the side pieces of the wash-board as shown and the arms thereof permitted tostraddle the upper edge of the tub so that the swivelled head 5 of the thumb-screw can be engaged with the tub. After the screws are tightened sufiiciently, the jaws 3 are brought tightly against the legs of the board and the latter is clamped in a substantially immovable position in the tub. This being the case, it
will be unnecessary to lean on the upper edge of the board in the usual way to hold it against movement. As befor indicated,
the construction of the clamp which I employ permits the boardto be disposed at numerous angles and the board when adjusted shown in Fig. 1 does not take up much space in the tub.
By carefully considering the description in connection with the drawings, persons familiar with devices of this class will doubtless be able to obtain a clear understanding of the same. In view of this a more lengthy and detailed description is thought unnecessary.
I claim:
A. wash board clamp comprising a substantially U-shaped yoke, the arms of which are intended to straddle the side of a tub or the like, the inner arm having an integral. laterally disposed jaw atits lower end designed to engage one of the side-pieces of the board, the remaining arm having a projection on its lower end extending in the same direction and in parallelism with said jaw, and abinding screw extending through saidprojection for engagement with the tub.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FREDERICK CHARLES BOHRI.
