Be it known that I, LnsLmjI. In operation, a stream of material is delivered into the hopper, or throat, formed by'the elements l1, l2 and 32 and+element 12 is rotated in a direction indicated by the arrow. As the supply stream increases or diminishes, the pressure of the accumulated material against the gage plate 32 varies and weight 42 yields more or less under this pressure, so that the delivery throat between rollvl2 and the toe 32 of gage plate 32, moves automatically toward or from roll 12 as the accumulation ofmaterial in the hopper decreases or increases.
The gage plate 32 also serves to spread the material lengthwise of the roller and, as the stream is projected downwardly by the roller from beneath the gage plate, it strikes the baffle 48 and by it is spread upon pan 14; the various parts cooperating to provide an evenly distributed stream of material to thepan 14, the depth of this stream varying automatically as the inflow of material varies.
I claim as my invention 1. A feeder comprising an inclined hopper wall, a rotatable drum arranged in conjunction with the lower part of said wall, a gage plate associated with said drum in'opposiwall and provided with a lower edge lying at a greater angle to the roller than the upper part of the gage plate, means for pivotally suspending said gage plate, means for vertically adjusting the suspension means, a rock shaft arranged materially below the suspension means, a
pressure arm carried by the rock shaft and engaging the gage plate to urge it toward the roller, yielding means for holding said pressure arm in contact with the gage plate,

A feeder comprising an inclined hopper Wall, a rotatable drum arranged in conjunction with the lower part of said wall, a gage plate associated with said drum in opposition to the hopper wall and provided with a lower edge lying at a greater angle to the roller than the upper part ofthe gage plate,
means for pivotally suspending said gage plate, means for vertically ad usting the suspension means, a rock shaft, a pressure arm carried by the rock shaft and engaging the gage plate to urge it toward the roller, yielding means for holding said pressure arm in contactwith the gage plate, and a baffle plate suspended in the line of deliveryfrom the roller. a
