' FEEDER.
answer.
To allwiwmz't may concern.
Be it known that I, LnsLmjI. Zinennma citizen of the, United States,{ residing at lndianapolis,.in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Feeder, of which thefollowing is a specification. p I The object of iny'invention is toprovide animproved feeding apparatus for grinning rolls, or other similar uses, where a laterally uniformly distributed stream of material of automatically varying volume, depending upon the rate of supply, is de- The' accompanying drawings my invention.
Figure l is a vertical a side elevation, with the front'reinoved.
In the drawings, 10 indicates a main casing in which is arranged a downwardly-inclined metal chute 11, curved near its lower edge to closely approximate the lower part of the feed roll 12 which is rotated continuously in the direction indicated by the arrow. The extreme lower edge of plate 11,
illustrate as indicated at 13, is projected downwardly r and forwardly to form an opening to bridge the gap between roll 12 and a guide pan 14, which is adjustably held in casing '10 by means of clamping bolts 15 passing through slots 16 in the sides of pan l4 and through the adjacent walls of casing 10.
Journaled in suitable brackets 20 in the upper part of casing 10 is a rock shaft 21 provided with arms 22 which carry, at their outer ends, a cross bar 23, upon the ends of which are pivoted the slotted retaining links 24 which may be clamped in desired adjusted position by clamping nuts 25 on the bolts 26 which pass through the walls of casing 10 and the slots of retaining links 24.-
Pivoted upon cross bar 23 are two depend ing arms 30, the lower ends of which are carried by bolts 31 upon which is secured Arranged near the lower edge of the gage plate 32 is a rock shaft 40 journaled in the section and Fig. 2,
,tion to the hopper Specification of Letters Baterrt. Patented Aug, 29, Application filed August 12, 1920.- Seria1 No."403,105.
provided with atemper. screw 44: adapted to engage and press uponithe gage plate 82 at a pointbetween shaft 40 and bar 23.
Threaded'throughsuitable brackets 45 on casing 10 are stopscrews lG arranged to be engaged by gage plate 32 so as to limit the outward throw of said. gage plate.
Swinging looselyupon shaft 40 are two arms 47 which carry a baflie plate 48 at their lower ends, said baiileplate being projected 2 are pressure arms 43, 4-3, each'of whichis I into the mouth of pan 14 at nearly a right 1 angle' Pan vl4 isnprovided with an upper plate i l which is parallel with and spaced from the bottom of the'pan.
Pan let delivers downwardly to the carriage between the rolls or other feed point (not shown),
In operation, a stream of material is delivered into the hopper, or throat, formed by'the elements l1, l2 and 32 and+element 12 is rotated in a direction indicated by the arrow. As the supply stream increases or diminishes, the pressure of the accumulated material against the gage plate 32 varies and weight 42 yields more or less under this pressure, so that the delivery throat between rollvl2 and the toe 32 of gage plate 32, moves automatically toward or from roll 12 as the accumulation ofmaterial in the hopper decreases or increases.
The gage plate 32 also serves to spread the material lengthwise of the roller and, as the stream is projected downwardly by the roller from beneath the gage plate, it strikes the baffle 48 and by it is spread upon pan 14; the various parts cooperating to provide an evenly distributed stream of material to thepan 14, the depth of this stream varying automatically as the inflow of material varies.
I claim as my invention 1. A feeder comprising an inclined hopper wall, a rotatable drum arranged in conjunction with the lower part of said wall, a gage plate associated with said drum in'opposiwall and provided with a lower edge lying at a greater angle to the roller than the upper part of the gage plate, means for pivotally suspending said gage plate, means for vertically adjusting the suspension means, a rock shaft arranged materially below the suspension means, a
pressure arm carried by the rock shaft and engaging the gage plate to urge it toward the roller, yielding means for holding said pressure arm in contact with the gage plate,
opposition to the hopper wall, means for pivotally suspending said gage plate, means for vertically adjusting the suspension means, a rock shaft arranged materially below the suspension means, a pressure arm carried by the rock shaft and engaging the gage plate to urge it toward the roller, yielding means for holding said pressure arm in contact with the gage plate, and a baflle plate suspended in the line of delivery from the roller.
3. A feeder comprising an inclined hopper Wall, a rotatable drum arranged in conjunction with the lower part of said wall, a gage plate associated with said drum in opposition to the hopper wall and provided with a lower edge lying at a greater angle to the roller than the upper part ofthe gage plate,
means for pivotally suspending said gage plate, means for vertically ad usting the suspension means, a rock shaft, a pressure arm carried by the rock shaft and engaging the gage plate to urge it toward the roller, yielding means for holding said pressure arm in contactwith the gage plate, and a baffle plate suspended in the line of deliveryfrom the roller. a
4t. A feeder comprising an inclined hopper wall, a rotatable drum arranged in conjunction with the lower part of said wall, a gage plate associated with said drum in opposition to the hopper wall, means for pivotally suspending said gage plate, means for verti-' dred and twenty.
