Definitions
- a hypodermic needle such as indicated at 58 is hollow, it is best sharpened by providing the point thereof witha single inclined surface.
- the needle can be pushed throughany one of the grooves, such as the groove 36 shown in Fig. 2.
- the enlarged end of the groove at 44 permits ready insertion of the needle.
- the point of the needle is allowed-to project slightly at the other end of the groove, and upon turning down the nut the needle'will be held firmly in place so that its point can be readily and accurately sharpened by "rubbing the device over a Whetstone or other abrasive surface.
- the needle may be readily inserted in either of the grooves and will be held therein sufficiently for sharpening purposes on account otthe resilienoy of the spring portion 52.
- a device for holding hypodermic 7 needles while sharpening the same comprising two clamping members, and means for holding said members with their cont1guous faces in contact, one of said faces be ing provided with a plurality of grooves inclined at different angles and any one of which is adapted to receive the needlewhich is to be sharpened whereby the length of the sharpening incline of the needle may be varied.
- a device for holding hypodermic needles while sharpening the same comprising two clamping members, means for guiding one of said members for relative movement toward and away from the other of said members, a screw-threaded bolt attached to one of said members and extending loosely through a hole in the other of said members, and a nut threaded, on said bolt whereby said clamping members may be held with their contiguous faces in contact, one of said faces being provided with a plurality of grooves inclined at different angles and any one of which is adapted to receive the needle which is to be sharpened whereby the length of the sharpening incline of the needle may be varied.
- a device for holding hypodermic needles while sharpening the same comprising two clamping members, guide studs secured to one of said members and extending slidably through holes in the other of said members, a screw-threaded bolt secured at one end to one of said members and passing loosely through a hole in the other of said members, the other end of saidbolt being unthreaded and slightly larger than the threaded portion, and a nut threaded on said bolt between the unthreaded end of the latter and the face of the adjacent clamping member whereby said clamping members may be held with their-contiguous faces in contact, one of said faces being provided with a plurality of grooves inclined at different angles and any one of which is adapted to receive the needle which'is to be sharpened whereby the length of the sharpening incline of the needle may be varied.

be observed that since a hypodermic needle such as indicated at 58 is hollow, it is best sharpened by providing the point thereof witha single inclined surface. Upon looseningthe nut 26 the needle can be pushed throughany one of the grooves, such as the groove 36 shown in Fig. 2. The enlarged end of the groove at 44 permits ready insertion of the needle. The point of the needle is allowed-to project slightly at the other end of the groove, and upon turning down the nut the needle'will be held firmly in place so that its point can be readily and accurately sharpened by "rubbing the device over a Whetstone or other abrasive surface. In the form shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the needle may be readily inserted in either of the grooves and will be held therein sufficiently for sharpening purposes on account otthe resilienoy of the spring portion 52. By referring to- Fig. '8 it will be seen that'the point of the I 1; A device for holding hypodermic 7 needles while sharpening the same comprising two clamping members, and means for holding said members with their cont1guous faces in contact, one of said faces be ing provided with a plurality of grooves inclined at different angles and any one of which is adapted to receive the needlewhich is to be sharpened whereby the length of the sharpening incline of the needle may be varied. 1 I
2. A device for holding hypodermic needles while sharpening the same comprising two clamping members, means for guiding one of said members for relative movement toward and away from the other of said members, a screw-threaded bolt attached to one of said members and extending loosely through a hole in the other of said members, and a nut threaded, on said bolt whereby said clamping members may be held with their contiguous faces in contact, one of said faces being provided with a plurality of grooves inclined at different angles and any one of which is adapted to receive the needle which is to be sharpened whereby the length of the sharpening incline of the needle may be varied.
3. A device for holding hypodermic needles while sharpening the same comprising two clamping members, guide studs secured to one of said members and extending slidably through holes in the other of said members, a screw-threaded bolt secured at one end to one of said members and passing loosely through a hole in the other of said members, the other end of saidbolt being unthreaded and slightly larger than the threaded portion, and a nut threaded on said bolt between the unthreaded end of the latter and the face of the adjacent clamping member whereby said clamping members may be held with their-contiguous faces in contact, one of said faces being provided with a plurality of grooves inclined at different angles and any one of which is adapted to receive the needle which'is to be sharpened whereby the length of the sharpening incline of the needle may be varied.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.-
