Description
G.GARDNER. Chair- Frames.
.N 142 625 Patented September9,1873.
[nuamtrn i mosses UNITED STATEs PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE GARDNER, OF GLEN GARDNER, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO OLIVER L. GARDNER.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAIR FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0.'142,625, dated September 9, 1873 application filed March 19, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GARDNER, residing in Glen Gardner, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chair- Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawing, in which the figure illustrates a perspective view of my improved chair-frame.
The nature of this invention consists in bracing the back-standards, by forming a conjunction therewith of the hind legs, which are mitered or mortised thereto, and of the seatframe, and by thence extending them downwardly to braces suitably disposed with reference to the seat-frame and hind legs, and securing them to these braces, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
The back-standards D D, which are inclined in a manner to adapt the chair back to the backward-inclined posture of the back of the occupant, is braced in position by its conjunction, jointly, withthe seat-frame G and the hind legs E, which latter are mitered or mortised into the standards. The back-standards Through this combination and arrangement of parts, not only a strong and durable chairframe is obtained, but, also, a beautiful one.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is--.
The combination of the back-standards D D, seat-frame O, hind legs E, and braces E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 3d day of March, 1873, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE GARDNER,
Witnesses:
STEWART T. BELL, ALLEN M. JARVIS.
