IMPROVEMENT IN CHAIR SEATS OR BACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,624, dated September 9, 1873 application led February 8, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GARDNER, residing in Glen Gardner, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Bottoms for Chairs, 85e., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawing, in which is illustrated a vertical sectional view of my improved chair-bottom, &c. r
Like parts in the drawing are designated by corresponding letters.
The nature of this invention consists in constructing the seat and back of one or more layers, each of paper and canvas, or other textile material, substantially as hereinafter more fully ,set forth.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
The seat, as is also the back, is composed of a layer of paper, A, canvas, or other textile material,B, and a second one of paper, A. A
vice-versa arrangement of the layers may be effected without changing the nature of my invention. The layers are united together by glue or other suitable medium. The seat and back are each fastened to their respective frames G C by nails or other proper fastenings. These frames are secured in place in the usual manner.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A seat or back for chairs composed of one or more layers each of paper and canvas, or other textile material," substantially as shown and described.
