A TTOR/VEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILL JOHN EGGLESTON, OF EVERETT, WASHINGTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TQ GEORGE T. WANICK, OF EVERETT, WASHINGTON.
TROLLING SPOON.
Application filed June 16,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILL JOHN EGGLES- TON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Everett, in the county of Snohomish and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolling Spoons, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to trolling spoons used in fishlng and is more particularly a fish shaped spoon capable of slow revolving movements in the water by virtue of its particular shaplng, my object being the provisioncf av simple device which may be readily formed and cheaply constructed in a single operation.
In the accompanying drawing illustratlng my present invention,
Figure 1 is aside elevatlon,
Figure 2 is a top planview,
Figure 3 is a perspective v1ew, and
Figures 4: and 5 are sectional vlews taken respectively on lines 44 and 5--5 of F1gure 2.
Referring now to these figures my invention proposes a trolling spoon formed of a single piece of sheet metal stamped out wlth its surrounding edge of the shape of'the out-line of a fish as particularly seen in Fig-v ure 1, including a body portion 10 and a tail extension 11, the body portion 10 having an opening 12 at its forward end to recelve an attaching ring 13 for a fish line swivel connection 14, and the tail 11 having an opening 15 for the reception of a ring 16 forming the attaching member of a hook 17.
The forward portion of the body 10 is pressed out in the concavo-convex shape indicated at 18 as particularly seen in Figures 2, 3 and 4, the rear portion of the body Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1922.
1920. Serial No. 389,417.
and the tail extension 11 being substantially flat with the exce tion that the terminal side portions 19 0 the tail extension are curved laterally and rearwardly beyond relatively opposite sides of the body as particularly seen in Figures 2, 3 and 5.
It is thus obvious that by virtue of its formation in this way, the trolling spoon proposed by my invention may be formed in a single operation wherein it is cut to shape apertured and pressed to form at the same time, from a single piece of sheet material and it is further obvious that various materials may be utilized for this purpose and the complete device finished readily, quickly and inexpensively.
It is furthermore obvious that my invention provides a spoon which will be attractive as a bait and will from its shape maintain slow revolving movement in the water.
I claim:
A trolling spoon consisting of a single piece of sheet metal conformmg in outline tothat of a fish, having the forward portion of its body concavo-convexly curved and having its said forward curved portion gradually merging in a flat rear portion and a flat tail said tail being provided at its rear end with diverging fins curved laterally in relatively opposite directions beyond opposite sides of the body, said body hav-' ing at its forward end an aperture to receive an attaching member and said tail having a similar aperture at its rear end between said fins, the two apertures being in the plane of the longitudinal axis of the spoon and the body being otherwise imperforate and having smooth unbroken side surfaces as and for the purpose described.
WILL JOHN EGGLESTON.
