TOWEL neon.
Application filed May 19,
T 0 (ZZZ- .0720771 it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO H. EGGERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago. in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new useful 1mprovements in Towel Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to racks designed for holding a plurality of'towels in position for use so that as each towel is used it may be swung back to expose. a clean one.
The invention has for its object to provide a very simple and handy rack or support of the kind stated, together with means for locking the towels to prevent theft or unauthorized removal.
The object stated is attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the towelclamping jaws of the device, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes two parallel and laterally spaced bracket arms having at their inner ends a base portion 6 connected by a horizontal cross bar 7. The base portions of the bracket arms have perforated ears 8 for screws or other fasteners whereby they are attached to a wall or other support.
The bracket arms 5 extend downwardly and forwardly from the base portions 6, and at its outer end, one of the arms has a bearing aperture 9, whereas the other arm has at its outer end a top bearing recess 10. The
bracket arms are designed to carry a towel supporting cross bar 11 one end of said bar being reduced and seating in the aperture 9 and the other end being also reduced and seating in the recess 10.
Associated with the towel-supporting bar 11 is a parallel extending clamping bar 12 which is positioned above the former. The ends of the bar 12 are reduced to seat in the aperture 9 and the recess 10. The reduced ends of the bars 11 and 12 are semi-circular in cross-section, so that when said bars are Specification of Let ers Patent.

assembled, said assembled ends are circular cross-section. Both bars are T-shaped in cross-section to assure rigidity, the webs be.- ing on the back of the bars. The bar 11 is secured to the arms 5 by screws 13 passing into its reduced ends. The bar 12 is detachable from the bar 11 one end being first inserted into the aperture 9 after which the bar is lowered to seat its other reduced end in the recess 10. The towels shown dotted in Fig. 3 are hung on the bar 11 before the bar 12 is applied, and after applying said bar and locking the same the towels are securely held to prevent their theft or unauthorized removal.
To lock the bars 11 and 12 together for the purpose stated, the shackle 14 of a padlock 15 is slipped around the same at one enc.
The bunch of towels hangs from the middle, and when a section has been used it can be swung over to the rear, leaving a. clean section for the next user.
The bars 11 and 12 form two jaws between which the towels are. held, the bar 11 being a stationary jaw and the bar 12 a movable jaw, and to obtain a better hold, they may have their gripping faces provided with rounded teeth 16 to clinch the towels and prevent slippage.
When all the towels have been used, they can be released and removed for the insertion of another supply, by unlocking the bar 12 and swinging the same upwardly away from the bar 11.
The towel-supporting cross bar 11 is spaced from the clamping bar 12 except at its ends, said ends being offset inwardly toward the clamping bar, as shown in Fig. 2, for engagement by the clamping bar. The offset at one end of the bar 11 projects from the bearing recess 10 a sufficient distance to permit the shackle 14 of the padlock to be placed around said projecting end portion and the contiguous end portion of the clamping bar 12.
I claim:
A towel-rack comprising a pair of laterally spaced bracket arms having attaching means at their inner ends and bearings at their outer ends, the bearings of one of the arms being open, a towel-supporting cross bar supported and secured at its ends in said bearings, a towel-clamping bar extending peraiiei to the supporting her, said sup porting her being spaced intermediate its ends from the clamping bar and having end portions which are ofl'set inwardly toward the clamping bar for engagement thereby, said clamping bar seating removably in-the bearings, and the, offset end portion of the supporting bar which seats in the open hearing projecting from said bearing, and a lock applied around said projecting offset end portion and the contiguous end portion of the clamping bar.
In. testimony whereof I effix my signature.
I OTTO H. EGGERT.
