Some of the objects of the present invention are to provide a machine simple in character and consisting of few parts which are inexpensive to manufacture, while further objeets and advantages will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings wherein I have shown an illustrative embodiment of my said invention, Fig. 1 is a sectional view taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 is a front end view of a mill; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, with parts broken away; Fig. 4: is a rear end view of the machine; and Fig. 5 is a detail view of the cam mechanism for oscillating the revolving disk.
Describing the various parts by reference numerals, 1 indicates the main frame of the machine which is preferably a casting and formed integral therewith are the lugs 2, 3 and 8. the arm 1 carrying the forked arm 5, and the rear wall 6 of the fan casing. The front of this casting is provided with a circular opening which is adapted to be closed by a door 7.. hinged as at 8 and fastened in any suitable manner as indicated at 9. The door 7 is recessed on its inner side to receive the stationary disk 9 and preferably cast integral with the door. is the hopper 10 which communicates to the inner face of the stationary disk.
The vertical oscillating l l member 12 is pivoted at its lower end on the lug 2 by the main drive shaft 13, which is journaled in suitable hearings in the lugs 8, 2 and 3. The main drive shaft carries a driving pulley 14 on its outer end. a drive pinion 15 keyed thereon between the lug 2 and one leg of the Specification of Letters ?atent.

H member, and on the inner end there is keyed a gear 16.
In axial alignment with the stationary disc and approximately midway of the l! member 12, there is journaled therein a hollow shaft 18 which mounts on its inner end, the revolving oscillating disk 19 and on its outer end the gear 20 which is driven by the pinion 15. Adjustment of pressure between the two disks is secured by means of the shaft 22 threaded into the hollow shaft 18 as indicated at 23. A hand wheel 2 1 serves to rotate the shaft to vary the pressure between the disks and a lock nut 25 holds the parts in adjusted relationship. A thrust, bearing 26 takes up the end thrust on the hollow shaft 18. On the inner end of the sleeve port-ion between the H member and the disk 19 there is journaled a gear 27 and keyed to the hub of this gear, is the fan member 28 which is driven by the main drive shaft 13, through the medium of gears 16 and 27.
The H member is oscillated by the cam 29 which engages the forked arm 5. The cam is keyed to a shaft 30, ournaled in suit able hearings in the upper end of the H memher and revolved by a gear 31 mounted on the end thereof and in mesh with gear 20.
The grinding disks may be of any suitable shape and I have shown them as having concave faces with a ball race near the outer periphery for fine grinding. The casing is provided with a suitable opening 33 for the discharge of the material by the air blast produced by the fan 28.
In operation power is applied to the driving pulley 14 which revolves shaft 13. The disk 19 is rotated by the sleeve 18 which is rotated by gear 20 meshing with the drive pinion. ()scillation of the H member and the disk is obtained by the cam 29 revolving in the forked arm 5 as previously explained.
The material to be ground is fed into the hopper 10 which guides it to the inner faces of the disk where it is ground to the desired size which is determined by the pressure between the two disks. As the material is ground it drops down into the fan casing where it is picked up by the current of air from the fan and forced out of the opening 33. i
It will be noted that the fan draws air through the opening in the rear wall Of. the tan casing and thereby creates a draft over the oscillating li member and adjacent parts which serves to keep them from dust and grit. i
Having thus deseribed my invention what I claim is: i
1. A grinding mill comprising a base, a
driving shaft rotatably supported on said said upright for oscillating said upright and driven shaft about said driving shaft, and driving connections between said shafts and said oscillating means.
2. A grinding mill comprising a base having a plurality of uprights projecting therefrom, a driving shaft journaled in said uprights',an H member pivoted on said driving shaft, a driven shaft journaled in said H member, a grindingdisk mounted on said driven shaiit and rotatable therewith, a stationary disk disposed in operative relationship to said rotary disk, a cam journaled in said H member adjacent the upper end thereof and adapted to oscillate said member upon rotation thereof, and driving connections between said shafts and said eam.
