FIGURE 2 vNvEN'm I 1 maufia 3 W V ATTORNEY CARRIER.
Application filed May 31,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, QRRIN OLEATON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of l/Vatsonville, in the county of Santa Cruz and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers, of which the following is a specifica tion.
My invention relates particularly to a de-' vice for use in carrying berry boxes.
It is the object of my invention to provide a device of the character indicated that can be manufactured at a nominal expense and that will readily engage and support two or more baskets without injury thereto or to the contents thereof. It is a further object to provide a device of the character indicated that is provided with a collapsible handle, and that is so constructed as to be readily attached to the baskets in such a to remain in a given position thereon.
In the drawing,- I
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved carrier.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a detail view on 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 indicates a wire frame enclosing four berry boxes 222-2 and 3 and 4 indicate cross wires connecting the opposite sides of frame 1 and between the pairs of boxes.
In the present illustration I have shown what are known as tin-tops, that is, berry boxes having their upper edges covered with a tin band formed thereon. The side of boxes shown are somewhat inclined from a vertical plane, and the frame 1 and cross wires 3 and 1 are so proportioned that they engage the sides of the several boxes just below their tin protected edges. There may be cases where the inclination of the box sides is so great that cross wires 3 and 4 will have to be bent somewhat in places as indicated at 5 so as to engage the opposing sides of adjacent boxes a distance from the top thereof as clearly shows in Figure 3. In most cases however, straight wire is sufficient since the boxes are somewhat flexible and may be fitted snugly in position.
At 6-6 are shown hooked elements mounted on cross wire 3 and extending upwardly and over the upper edges of an adjacent basket, and at 7 is shown a handle mounted on the central portion of the basket Specification of Letters Patent.

as shown. In the present case I show merely a wire bent to engage the cross wire 3 on both sides of its center and having a wooden grip 8 mounted thereon.
This device may of course, be formed to hold any number of baskets and may be placed in position and secured against falling when the baskets are arranged in their trays for crating and shipping, the handle being collapsed as indicated in dotted lines at 9. IVhen the berries are sold the dealer has only to raise the handle and wrap the package up, the handle providing a simple and convenient means for carrying the same.
It is clear of course, that the frame 1 may be made in many different ways and held in position by many different devices, and also that many different types of handles may be fitted thereto.
It is to be understood therefore, that changes in form, construction and method of operation may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
claim 1. A basket carrier comprising a rectangular wire frame, cross wires arranged thereon whereby to form basket receiving spaces, and means carried by said cross wires to engage the baskets a distance below the upper edges thereof.
2. A basket carrier comprising a rectangular wire frame, cross wires arranged thereon whereby to form basket receiving spaces, and means carried by said cross wires insertable between the upper edges of baskets arranged therein and bendable over the upper edges of said baskets.
3. A. basket carrier comprising a rectangular wire frame, cross wires arranged thereon whereby to form basket receiving spaces, semiplastic elements mounted on said frame and bendable over the upper edges of the baskets placed therein, and means carried by said cross wires to engage the baskets a distance below the upper edges thereof.
L A basket carrier comprising a rectangular wire frame and cross wires arranged thereon whereby to form basket receiving spaces, said cross wires having laterally ex- ORRIN O. EATUN.
