Description

MARIUS JEAN-BAPTISTE BARBAROU.
FASTENING MEANS FOR AUTOMOBILE ACCESSORIES.
APPLICATION FILED IUNE I0. 1920.

FASTENING MEANS FOR AUTOMOBILE ACCESSORIES.
Application filed June 10, 1920.
To all whom it may 007156771.
Be it known that T, Maxims JEAN-BAP- ris'rn BAnnAnoU, citizen of the Republic of France. residing at 28 Rue Saint Ferdinand, Paris, in the Republic of France, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Fastening Means for Automobile Accesseries. of which the following is a specilication.
This invention consists in an improved device for securing upon the dash boards of motor cars indicating or controlling instruments such as mileage indicators, pressure gages, amperemeters, speedometers, etc. By means of said device, the instrumentis securely held in position and can be removed very easily from the front of the dash board. The improved fastening device may be manufactured at a low cost and is very neat in appearance.
In the accompanying drawings given by way of example Fig. 1 is a rear elevation view of a fastening device constructed in accordance with the invention, the speedometer or like instrument to be secured being removed.
Fig. 2 is sectional view along the line A-A, l1 ig. 1, the instrument being shown in position in the fastening device.
Fig. 3 is a plan view corresponding to 1* ig. 1, the instrument being also shown in position.
I ig. lis a front elevation view on a reduced scale of the dash board of a mtor car upon which two indicating instruments have been secured. by means of my improved fastening device.
The dash board a of the motor car is pro vided with an opening corresponding to the instrument to be secured. Upon the rear face of the dash board, around said opening, is placed a collar strap which is secured to the dash board along about one half of its circumference for instance by means of screws 0. The collar 6 is split radially at (Z and the two adjoining ends are provided with lugs 6 having lateral horizontal slots provided with inclined faces 7. A yoke member 9 having correspondingly inclined inner faces is placed over the lugs 6, so that the side members of said yoke Specification of Letters Patent.

engage into said slots and bear against the said inclined. faces f. Said yoke g is provided with a screwthreaded hole into which a'screw it is screwed, the head of said screw is located on, the front side of the dash board and a washer i is preferably inserted between a shoulder on the screw and the lugs e. The instrument j to be secured to the dash board is inserted through the opening in the latter, from the front side into the strap Z).
When the screw it is screwed on, the side members of the yoke slide upon the inclined faces f of the lugs c and said lugs are pulled towards each other whereby the instrument 7' is tightly gripped inside the collar b and thereby secured to the dash iboard. When the instrument is to be removed, the screw it is slightly unscrewed whereby the ends of the collar recede from each other owing to the elasticity of the collar, the yoke g sliding slightly rearwards. The instrument 7' is thus disengaged and may easily be removed from the dash board. The said operations are effected from the front side of the dash board and the necessity of getting behind the same is entirely avoided.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A. fastening device for automobile aecessories elastic collar split transversely at one point, means for securing said collar to the dash board. at a part thereof removed from the slit, a wedge like member adapted to close said collar and a screw operatively connected to said wedge like member.
2. A fastening device for automobile accessories comprising in combination an elastic collar split transversely at one point, means for securing said collar to the dash board along a part of its contour removed from the slit, lugs on the ends of said collar having inclined faces, a yoke member engaging with said inclined faces and a screw adapted to pull the yoke and the lugs in engagement with each other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
MARIUS JEAN-BAPTISTE BARBAROU.
