-of Iowa, have inventedI a new and useful Improvement in Call Clocks, of which the following is a specifica-tion.`
. My invention relates to call clocks and embodies improvements in my application for call clock led June 16, 1920, Serial No. 389,363 and allowed November 24, 1920.
In the above identified application a vertically movable carriage is provided carrying a-rack bar which is fed downwardly step by step by a pair of pivoted pawls.
t is the primary object of the present invention todo away with these pivoted pawls and to provide a simple mechanism for lowering the rack bar step by step.
With these and other objects that may become apparent from the following disclosure the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts and operations to be hereinafter referred to and explicitly defined -in the subjoined claim, the invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein,

The teeth 11 ofthe rack bar V7 are beveled at one side on an oblique line with respect to the horizontal as indicated at 12. Fixed to the shaft 8 is a disk13 provided with a plurality of spaced radially disposed teeth 14 lfor cooperation with the teeth 12 on the rack bar 7 These teeth 14 are beveled at their edges as indicated at 15 sothat the teeth will ride over the beveled edges 12 of the teeth 11 of the rack bar 7 during the rotation of the shaft 8.
In operation it will be obvious that the shaft 8 will be rotated in a clockwisedirection by the pinions 9 above referred to and as shown in Fig. 2 the rack teeth 11 of the rack bar 7 rests upon the upper face of the teeth 14. As the disk continues to rotate the teeth 11 will successively drop through .the spaces between the teeth 14 so that the rack bar will be lowered Vstep by step at a uniform speed.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resortedto without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
The .combination with a rotatable shaft,
of a longitudinally movable rack bar having the teeth thereof beveled obliquely with re- `spect to the horizontal, at one side thereof,
a disk xed to rotate with the shaft, a plurality of spaced horizontally arranged teeth carried thereby and having their edges beveled so as to pass the beveled face of the teeth on the rack bar, the latter being adapted to successively rest upon the upper face of the disk and to subsequently pass between two adjacent teeth of the latter.
