IMPROVEMENT IN LOOM-SHUTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,373, dated September 2, 1873 application filed J une 28, 1873. v
Y proved shuttle, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line of Fig. l.
I use a wheel, A, for the bobbin, and fit it on the hub B, having a series of tensionsprings, G, between it and the wheel. The hub having a limited rotation in the direction for reeling off the thread, the bobbin turns on the springs, which thus produce the regular tension required. This hub B I make hollow,
and provide it with a volute spring, l), and arrange them so that the spring will turn the hub to wind on the thread whenever there is any slack, and thus prevent the jerking which is liable to take place whenever the slack of the thread is taken up by the motion of the shuttle. l
When the spring D is made taut, or wound up by the pull of the thread, the hub B is held in positionv until a slack allows it to turn in the opposite direction.
By the shape of my reel I carry more yarn than is usual, thereby saving many stoppages, and thus doing more work in a given time.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, `is- The combination of the bobbin A, hub B, and springs C D, all arranged and operating as and for the purpose described.
